M&Ms

Has anyone come up with a formula for how many M&Ms are needed per guest?  Mars sells them in 5 and 10 lb. containers and we are having 250-300 guests.  I don't know how much to get...ideas?

For candy buffets they recommend about 1/4 of candy per person. What kind of bags or holders are you putting the candy in? Maybe buy them and fill one with candy and measure how much is in it and mulitply that by your number of guests

We purchased 15 lbs, used about 1/4 cup per favor, and got about 130 portions out of it.  A standard single-portion bag of m&m's is about 1.6 oz, so each lb should give you 9-10 single-serving portions.  As PP said, buy a small bag at the store and try it out in your container-the size of your container will make a huge difference in the amount you need..what will look abundant in one container may look woefully meager in another!
