Favors

fortune cookies yes or no?

We weren't going to do favors at all because people don't normally take them and I thought they'd be a waste but I found a discount for flavored fortune cookies that seemed affordable and fun so I'm considering it.  My fiance thinks it is not a good idea and here's why:
Our wedding is very formal with very gourmet and elegant food, a champagne signature drink and it's at an elegant high end hotel so it feels kind of princessy.  He thinks that after the gourmet meal and cake that the flavored fortune cookies will seem really cheap and that it would be better not to have them because they won't be missed.  He thought the cheap fortune cookie was not the best last impression considering how expensive the food is.  He also said that fortune cookies don't fit with the theme or feel of our wedding.
What do you all think?  Should we skip them or do you think people would appreciate getting a flavored fortune cookie?

    A couple things:

    1) You don't have to do favors, but I think it's rude not to
    2) I personally prefer edible favors that somehow relate to the couple and the fortune cookies just seem like an afterthought, so I don't really like the idea.  Can you tell us a little bit about you and your FI so maybe we can help give you ideas?
    3) How much are you looking to spend on favors (what's considered "affordable" to you may be completely over-the-top for the rest of us)... a price point can help us give you suggestions

I think fortune cookies are a fun end to ANY event/meal - regardless of "theme" or "style."

for your type of wedding i wouldn't pick the fortune cookie favors just because you found them cheap. if you want something inexpensive and edible. try giving chocolates or mints.

peaches, I didn't even budget for it because I wasn't going to do favors.  The price I found on these with a coupon I got was about 60$ for 200 with shipping included.  I thought that was pretty reasonable for everyone to have two cookies.  I don't think I'd really spend much more than that.  I'm having one hundred guests.  If I don't do this, I'm probably not going to do favors at all. They just looked delicious and fun to me but I understand my fiance's point too.

To tell you about us:  We probably wouldn't do any favor that wasn't edible.  We love theme parks and Disney and our wedding is at a theme park hotel and it is a destination wedding for mostly everyone but us.  The colors are lavender with a little silver.  Other than the elegant location and food, there isn't a theme.

unplainjane:  I kind of feel like chocolates or mints seem much cheaper than the fortune cookie idea which is why my fiance didn't like it.

Why don't you buy a Mickey and Minnie candy mold and then make chocolate lollipops?  You can wrap them in cellophane with a nice ribbon.

What about doing chocolate truffles? Or fortune cookies dipped in chocolate?

Ohhh... that could work... you could even make them!  I made the fortune cookies below (with folded $20 bills inside) for my FMIL's bday.

If you like them, instead of setting them out as "favors" maybe put them in a large glass vase or glass bowl for people to take them if they like.

i might would skip it. Unless you really like it, then I would say go for it.  But $60 seems kinda high for favors you were not going to do in the first place. In the end you do what you and your FI feel comfortable doing.  But if your FI is dead set against it, I say it is a small battle to chalk up to him winning. (Vs say the wedding colors!)
