I am getting married July 7th, and I am doing mini hershey bars for our favors. How close to the wedding should I order them? I know chocolate can go bad... Thanks for any help!
Anytime would be fine. Ditto pp. As long as you keep them in a cool, dry place, like in ac or in a basement if you have one, they will be fine. Chocolate doesn't go bad.
Chocolate actually DOES have a shelf life. It's roughly 6-8 months, depending on the quality of the chocolate and who makes it. (Places like Hershy's add preservative-type ingredients, whereas local chocolatiers might not.) Whatever you do, don't put it in a refrigerator or freezer. That will cause it to discolor. I say order it 2-3 months out.
I ordered a bunch of M&Ms and Jordan almonds in late February for my May 29 wedding. I'm just keeping them airtight and in a cool, dry place. But yes DON'T put them in the fridge or freezer! They will get that white-ish color that chocolate sometime turns.
I bought some of my candy at Harry and David. I checked the expiration date on the packages prior to buying them. I have a 20% off coupon that I think I will use this weekend to buy the rest of my candy.
I'm getting Godiva and it won't be in my possession until the week before wedding. Chocolate can be iffy and I'm not taking any chances. This will ensure it is fresh, but it also gives me enough time to rush something else if there is any problem with it arriving.
I'm getting chocolate favors (these little chocolate penguins, since my FI gave me a stuffed penguin when he moved cross country for military duty), and like PP, I'm getting them delivered the week of the wedding (on Monday, with my wedding on Saturday) for the exact same reasons as she had.
