Chocolate-covered sunflower seeds for favors?

My original idea for a favor was a box filled with chocolate-covered sunflower seeds. They taste pretty good and my fiance loves sunflower seeds so I thought it would be kind of personal. For months I was settled on this idea, til I thought one day, maybe people won't like them. I go from thinking it's a great idea to thinking it totally sucks.

My second option is Reeses peanut butter cups because we both like them (and I wanted to do something edible). The problem with that is they melt fast and we are getting married September 25th, so there's a chance it could be 70 or 80 degrees here! Chocolate-covered sunflower seeds don't melt quickly in the heat when kept indoors so that was making me go back to that idea!

Thoughts?

As long as you kept the Reese's indoors and out of heat, they'd be okay.  They don't really melt if kept in a cool place.

That said, both sound good to me!  I've never heard of chocolate-covered sunflower seeds, but they sound amazing!  I think that's a really cute and original idea, and the fact that it has personal ties to you guys makes it a good choice too!

As for people not liking them, no matter what you pick, there's going to be someone who doesn't like it.  I imagine a lot of people may not have had them before, and even if they end up not liking them, it can be a new experience for them and they'll be able to say they've tried them.

    Just my thoughts :)

Thanks guys-nice to hear that it could be a unique idea and not something totally weird to everyone!

I need to buy another bag of the Reeses and see if they melt-it's like 95 in NY so they probably will lol!

I think chocolate Sunflower seeds is a great idea! Very unique and different and you will be surprised at how many people will like them :) Love your idea!

I think you're overthinking this favor business a bit.  If you are generous enough to provide favors after also providing dinner, drinks, and entertainment, and you have guests who are so closed-minded to the idea of chocolate covered sunflower seeds (which are delicious and something I've never seen at a wedding) that they leave them behind, then that leaves more for you to snack on later :)  Kudos to you for being so thoughtful, but don't cause yourself any undue stress over favors.

Hope that didn't sound condescending--I got married 8 months ago and am back on theknot.com because my sister-in-law just got engaged and has made me her unofficial wedding planner, so I'm lurking a bit.  I just hate to see brides-to-be cause themselves unnecessary stress over these little details.  I remember being in my gown, hair and makeup done, and working diligently on table assignments because I had the world's cutest DIY escort cards and table numbers, and now I look back and shake my head at how silly I was about those little details.  Our favors were traditional Italian cookies packaged in Chinese take out boxes.  We had fifteen boxes of cookies left at the end of the reception--I ended up giving cookies to the band, the bartenders, the cab driver, the concierge at the hotel, and they appreciated them even if those fifteen guests didn't.
I think chocolate covered sunflower seeds are fabulous, original, and I sincerely hope some people are introduced to a wonderful new treat (and some people forget to take theirs home so the extras can be snacked on at a later date :)
