Edible (Candy) Favor & Candy Bar - Overkill?

We're getting married in Ohio (where we currently live) and most of our guests will be coming from the East coast. We were planning on making homemade buckeye candies and putting them in favor boxes (2-3 candies per guest). We thought that would be something cool that we can make ourselves & they're very popular in OH.

Since we made that decision, we also decided to do a small candy bar on our cake table. We only have 30 guests, so we'll be using small jars & getting small quantities of each candy.

I just started thinking this may be too much candy & we may want to rethink one or the other...anyone else do a candy bar & still provide an edible favor?

I don't see why it would be a problem. Maybe you can incorporate the buckeyes into the candy bar and that as a whole can be their favor. If you get a nice platter (wouldn't want them getting smashed in a jar!) you can set them out with a little note that says "Buckeyes our signature Ohio treat." Or something like that.

Or you could even do a cookies and milk bar, with various cookies and milks (i.e white and chocolate) and still pass the buckeyes out as favors.

But like I said your original idea seemed fine to me but I still wanted to give you some other options.

ETA: I am from Ohio and personally LOVE buckeyes!!
    It's love(:

I think you should either just do the boxed favors or do the candy bar.  You can always include the buckeye candies in the candy bar.

I agree with jagore! Either one or the other.

I really like the idea of the buckeyes being on the candy buffet. IMO if you gave me candy for a favor and then had a candy buffet I might wonder why the candy in the box wasn't just on the buffet.

As PP said, make little signs that you can scatter on the candy buffet to tell your guests about some of the candy and why you chose it.

Good suggestions - I think I'm going to just put the buckeyes on the candy buffet! Thanks!

Just an FYI if you need to find some candy...

Harry London's Chocolates near the Akron/Canton Airport specializes in all types of candy including buckeyes!  If you want to forgo buying them, Costco also sells a big tub for under $10.  Harry London's also have sales around holidays with up to 75% off selected items.  Also, try Sweetie's Candy in Cleveland - they have EVERYTHING under the sun and can match your colors perfectly.

Those really are two different ideas.  I don't see anything wrong with give unique candy as a favor and then having a candy buffet as well!  Hope your wedding is fantastic!

  • I don't think it's overkill.  You could actually include the buckeyes as part of the candy bar, if you wanted.
