I'm just starting to plan things out for my reception. I want to know what everyone's favorite favor was or what was a big hit. I don't want to do kitschy...I want it to be special and unique...not "hugs & kisses from the Mr. & Mrs."
I can't think of a favorite, so I'll just flatter myself and say mine --- white chocolate covered cherries, because they are delicious, and edible favors don't go to waste.
Worst --- Mini pea pod salt and pepper shakers. Those ugly little suckers went right to my trash.
I really don't have a favorite. I think they're all pretty much the same. I've seen candy, match books, candles, little bud vases, origami or paper boxes, CDs...
I'd say do something that's meaningful to you, no matter what that is. I doubt anyone's going to say "OMG, this is the BEST favor I've ever received and I'm going to use it over and over..." or whatever.
We're doing a CD. I've read from many people about how lame they are or how they've never listened to any that they've received. I've received probably 4 or 5 different ones and I've loved them all. My FI and I are HUGE music buffs, so I always enjoy listening to new music or having collections from other people.
But honestly, I'll never know if you throw it out right after the reception and I honestly don't care. You could throw out the hersey bar or the matchbook or whatever else we might have chosen to place there...
A photo booth at the reception... I can't afford one, but I would LOVE to do it!! The guests can take a photo home & leave one for the happy couple as part of the guest book.
I polled my guests and they voted candy buffet. It's pretty and it makes a great favor. You're pretty safe with anything edible. I did mini-champagne bottles too--but if I had it to do over again, I would have just done the candy. Photobooths are also very popular where I live.
I prefer edible. We did little boxes of cappuccino and marshmallow Jelly Bellys (Our favorite candy), it seemed to be a hit, there were only a few left behind.
If you decide to not go the edible route, I have made it my mission in life to beg every bride to not do the champagne flute/wine glass with your names and wedding date engraved on it. I've seriously received this at 4 different weddings, and every single one of them sat in my cabinet until I no longer felt guilty about throwing it out. I drink wine, but honestly, I've reached for giant red plastic party cups before one of those.

I love edible favors. We're making buckeyes and we're also having a cookie buffet for our guests. best.favor.ever.
I'm not a fan of personalized favors. I usually forget to take them, on purpose. I received a green gel candle at a wedding last summer. I sold it for .50 at the neighborhood yard sale a couple weeks later. woohooo!!
I think we will go with personalized fortune cookies.
Small, edible, personalized, and a little different. (at least so far. All the brilliant unique ideas I've had before have turned up at other friends' weddings)
By all means, put your tag or whatever on your gift, but don't put your info on the gift itself. Except something useable, like matchbooks, they go to the trash.
IMy favorite favor was seeing that the bride and groom decided to take the "favor" money and put it towards a charity in honor of the bride's deceased father.
This was more meaningful than any little trinket I've ever received, edible or not!
I think a photo booth where you get a copy of the pictures and they do sounds neat. If you need cheaper I am doing votive candles in the color or my wedding colors. Wedding colors are green and pink. Candles selected Wedding Day (white) Beautiful Day (green) Fresh Cut Roses (pink) all from yankee candle.
At my cousin's wedding they gave our playing cards with their names on the back and their wedding date. I loved the idea because it was very "them" plus i love cards.
145 Invited so far!
84 Will be there!
52 Will be square 9 Are undecided
I thought about doing a candy buffet, but I really want to do a photo booth instead. I agree that personalized gifts are worthless because who needs a shot glass with your name on it. Edible favors are good. Usually they don't make it through the dinner and they ar long gone (if they are on the table when you eat)

My favorite favor is you buying me more alcohol to drink that I do not have to pay for. I will not be sad if I do not get a little sack of M&M's, really.
I dont really have a favorite. I decided to do something that can be used after the wedding but I am also doing something edible in little pillow boxes that say love. I got the photo coasters and I will be using them as place cards by placing a photo of the person who should sit there on the table. Then the guests can take them home with them.
I am doing a photobooth. Part of the package is that the pictures are printed twice, one for the person, and one for the guestbook. They person puts the guest book copy in the guest book and writes their wishes beside their pictures. It will serve two purposes!
My top 3 picks are: photobooth, because who doesn't love pictures of themselves?; edible treats, because most people love to eat; and matchbooks, because they are useful. Plus these ideas are appropriate favors regardless of the guest's gender. First runner up: A CD of the playlist used at the reception, but I think this could get expensive. (I do like the idea of votive candles, but I don't think that most men would appreciate them.)

You can buy 250 cd's for like $17. That's pretty cheap in my eyes. However not everyone has the same taste in music and what may be awesome to one person may be totally annoying to another, so I would say no because many of them go into the trash.

Yes I agree; I should have explained myself better.....I once received one from a friend's wedding where they had the label side of the disc personalized with a screen printed picture of the couple along with their names and wedding date, and that's where I think costs might get a little high. I suppose you could put sticker labels on them, but I heard that this was not good for CD players.
The favorite I got was a bottle of wine! Too bad normal people can't afford it. We also loved the playing cards we got but would be nicer if they didn't have the couple's names. Feels weird to be playing with our friends when they aren't there but that' s just me.
I agree with everyone who said to go with something personal. We are doing keychains with a little boat on them (date and message will be on a little card attached) because I collect them and have since I was a kid. We have a long string of them lining the wall of our kitchen. Sure some people might find it tacky but we find them special.
The most useless were the cheap bubble tubes. The stickers were put on sloppily and most of the tubes couldn't be opened. Also didn't like the coaster/picture fames we got at the last wedding we went to. Couldn't tell if they were coasters we were supossed to use at the wedding or fridge magnets or whatever. At least make sure people know what you're giving them!
Best: edible stuff (except Jordan almonds, which are barely edible), matches (even with your name on the package, I'll at least throw them in a drawer and use as needed)
Worst: anything breakable that has been personalized (not only will i not use it, but now I have to pack it carefully so it won't break on my trip home)
A toss up: We once got personalized (but the B&G's names were tiny) aluminum water bottles as favors. Very eco friendly and non-breakable, but they were really bulky and a pain to pack in our carry-on luggage (another destination wedding for 90% of guests).

Best: The bride's mom made her famous lace cookies, and gave two per guest in a little bag. SO good!

my favorite is chocolate covered pretzels. we've ordered from here and everyone loved them. http://thebrideorganizer.com/?page_id=7
candy buffets are cute too.
