How much is to much for the floral budget? What is average/expensive?

Most budget calculators will tell you to estimate 10% of your total budget for flowers.  That is just a guide, however.  I came in at around 8%.  Check your local board for a better estimate of what the rates are in your area.

OP, it's great to see another New Orleans bride.  You should join us on the local board. The sky's the limit when it comes to flowers; I think it depends on how much of a priority flowers are for you.

But just to give you an idea my florist in NOLA (Fat Cats--I highly recommend them btw) was able to do the following with a 2000 dollar budget:

My bouquet (peonies), 2 BM bouquets (gardenias), 5 corsages for moms and grandmothers and 7 bouts for groomsmen/dads/grandfathers (ranunculus), 6 aisle markers (roses, snapdragons, hydrangea), 1 huge centerpiece, 1 medium guest table centerpiece, and 3 family table centerpieces (stock, roses, ranunculus, snapdragon), 10 regular table centerpieces and votives (5 w/ orchids, 5 w/gardenias), cake stand, and petals for the aisle.

Sorry if that was TMI for most people, but seeing as we're in the same city it might be helpful for OP.

I agree- I think it depends on the types of flowers and how much you need, and where you are located. We didn't need anything for our ceremony because the place we are using does all the flowers for us and it's included in the price, so that helped us cut down on costs. I met with 3 florists- and in the end all of them were around the same price, so I picked the one I liked the best.

We are spending around 2,000 for ANY Flower we want (the florist is a wholesaler) which includes - 12 centerpieces, brides bouquet, 6 BM bouquets, 4 corsages, 9 boutennieres. I dont think we are doing Church flowers. Good Luck!

Yes, I agree with the PP that it also depends on how high a priority flowers are for you.  For me, they were very important so I had a fairly large part of my budget allotted for them.

For my friend, we did flowers for $200 by using miminimal number of large blooms in a summer wedding.  Most of the flowers (peonies, predominantly) were from her Grandma's garden.  The $200 was spent on slate runners for the table, floral tape for the boutineres and grey velvet ribbon to wrap the bouquet stems.
