i don't think they are funeral flowers. my MIL is doing my flowers and the first thing she said to me was that i should use carnations because they are inexpensive and last a long time. though my "only" rule was no carnations! : ) i personally don't like them as i see them as sort of an old fashioned flower. but if you like them go for it. i also hear gerberas are inexpensive and are in season all year round. they are also more modern but it depends on your style.

I think they can be done very nicely.  They're also very affordable.

i'm doing carnation and ranunculus as my main flowers.  my mom originally told me carnations were ugly, but I changed her mind!  Carnations will be my filler and the flower for my pomanders.

I'm doing carnations for my wedding in October!  Carnations don't look so great as a single flower, but bunched tight in a bouquet they look great.  And yes, cheap!

Check out this post in my blog.  I have a couple carnation bouquets on there.  I love the first one.

Carnations have great texture.  When they are mixed in bouquets tightly, most people don't even recognize them as carnations.

As for a funeral flower, I thought that was lily.
