Wedding around Valentine's Day

Hey ladies.
I have a question. I was planning my wedding date to be February 15, 2014. I went t oa bridal show last weekend, and a florist told me to make it either two weeks before or two weeks after to let the costs of lfowers get back to normal. What do you think would be best, before or after? I'm thinking after, but I don't want to push the date back.

Re: Wedding around Valentine's Day

  • If you are looking to incorporate Valentine's Day theme, I would do before. The anticipation of an event (Valentine Day) is exciting. Afterwards, not so much when looking back. When do you and your fiance want it? February 1 or March 1?
  • Honestly I wouldnt change it at all, if you get your order in early enough they should give you the prices they were before going up. My wedding is the day before Sweetest Day and they told me they would lock in the price they gave me. I wouldnt change the date for flower expenses, I would just put in an order before it gets to close
  • Yes, flowers will be more expensive around Valentine's Day, but is that really a reason to change your date?  Wouldn't it be simpler to just use fewer or less expensive flowers?
  • I would go with before, especially if you want roses. The growers push their plants to produce more blooms for holidays, so they produce smaller, weaker flowers right after. If you don't want just roses I think you would be ok after Valentine's Day though.
  • A friend of mine's daughter was going to get married on Valentines day until the florist said that he couldn't promise her roses since they are in such high demand for Valentines day plus they would cost almost 3 times the regular price because of Vaelntine day. She opted to push her wedding back & saved a ton of money on her flowers.
