Flowers

Has anyone made their own bouquetts, boutonnieres, etc.....

I'm on a kind of low budget (i'm sure a lot of us are) and am doing my own floral. I want to use real flowers not fake. I know that costco/sams club have some pretty great prices. Do you know of any wholesale places? Also, have any of you done a cascading boquette? I really want a cascading bouquette, they are beautiful! Any info, photos, or links that you could provide would be great help. Thank you all!

Have you ever worked with flowers before?  If not, then a cascading bouquet would be extremely hard for you to put together.

Have you thought about doing all the florals for your wedding except your bouquet?  You can do simple arrangements and bouquets for your BMs and then hire a florist to complete your cascading bouquet.

I ordered my flowers from Costco. I did the centerpieces myself, but they have a 20 piece wedding package that is around $399. I got the 20 piece white rose package and it was lovely and I didn't have to do them

Post on the local Detroit board (where I go all the time). The brides are really really nice and the florist suggestions are always helpful.

I also agree with the prior poster, you might want to do all the other things and simply pay a florist for your own cascading bouquet. I have a large garden and have worked with flowers for a long time.........and I would not attempt to do a cascading bouquet.
  • I recently went to a wholesale shop and bought flowers to make bouquets and centerpieces. One bouquet took me an hour, and it did look nice at the end, but it was rounded and somewhat shabby chic in nature (which is what I was going for). Centerpieces were simple since I just want flowers in mason jars. They looked pretty.

That said, I spent $150 on my test run and had enough flowers for maybe 4-5 bouquets or 3-4 centerpieces. The materials add up (ribbon, flower tape, wire, etc.), and it's a PITA. It's super messy, and you have to make sure all the flowers stay hydrated (both at home and in the car).

DIY flowers = cheaper, not cheap.

We ordered flowers from Sam's Club for both my daughter's and son's weddings.  We had bulk bouquets for one and bulk baby's breath for the other.  The flowers arrived on Thursday and we made the bouquets on Thursday night.  Everything looked beautiful for the weddings which were on Saturdays.  I put the flowers in a cooler with water in it until we were ready to arrange them....After they were arranged I put them in pitchers and glasses

until we needed them.  We waited until the morning of the wedding to wrap the bouquets with ribbon so it didn't get wet.
My daughter-in-law used one order of bulk bouquets and made her bouquet and 5 bridesmaids' bouquets.  For my daughter's wedding she bought her bouquet and mothers' corsages  from the bridal shop and we made all the bridesmaid's bouquets (5), bouts(12), and centerpieces(10) from 2 orders of baby's breath.  We spent a little over $100 dollars for each wedding for the flowers from Sam's.
  • I used fiftyflowers.com to make our centerpieces- great cheap option for flowers! For a cascading bouquet, I agree with PP and would rely on a professional for that.
