Possibly helpful DIY info

I was talking with the wholesale flower shop in my area and she told me a few things that I hadn't heard of yet. Most of the time brides on this board ask about how many flowers they need; however they may not know:

-You can do your flowers on the Thursday night before your Saturday wedding with no problems. This gives you plenty of time to do and redo bouquets if needed.
-Calla lilies are florist's favorites. They are more per stem; however they are flexible and easy to work with. If you are inexperienced this may be a good flower to think about.
- Don't wrap your flowers with ribbon until the morning of the wedding. Also, don't cut the stems until just before the wedding. It makes the flowers last longer. Wrapping the stems at the last minutes will allow the ribbon to stay dry so that it won't be wet and dripping during the ceremony.
-You need to refrigerate the flowers, whether they are being stored or already in arrangements. Do not refrigerate with food. Food gives off a gas that will kill the flowers. Make sure to keep the flowers watered while refrigerated.

I hope this helps someone.

    Ditto this info!
A couple of things to add:
-While some flowers are OK for Thurs night, some others don't hold up so well for that long  (i.e., tulips).
-re: refrigeration... I usually store the flowers in buckets in the unfinished basement where it's a few degrees cooler than upstairs (not enough room in my fridge!) and they're fine.  So, don't freak out if you don't necessarily have fridge space.

Don't let your flowers touch the walls of the fridge!
Try to make corsages and boutonnieres as late as possible, sinve they go without water.
