Flower colour - help! PIP

Hi,
I'm having second thoughts as to my choice of flowers for me and my bridesmaids.  Below is the link for the bridesmaid's dresses (colour is cornflower - it's not as bright when you have the dress in front of you).

My original idea for all of our bouquets was cream roses and blue orchids:
It's not only the colour of the orchid I'm rethinking, now when I look at it, the shape of the orchid looks funny to me against the roses.  Help?!  Any ideas?  I definitely want roses.
Thank you!!

  • If you are questioning the orchids then my suggestion is to just leave them out all together and just have the roses.  You can always wrap the stems of the bouquet in blue ribbon to coordinate with your BM dresses.  You could also use, blue delphinium and/or hydrangeas to bring in the blue color if you really wanted blue flowers in the bouquet.

FWIW, the main player in the bouquet pictured are the orchids...the roses are just used as a backdrop to make the orchids stand out.  The orchids are also not nestled in with the roses but rather  "floating" on top to give the bouquet some dimension.  I actually like the bouquet because it is different and offers a nice surprise with the blue orchids.

  • So maybe if I had my florist tuck them in a little bit, I would like them better.....
What do you think of the orchid colour against the BM dresses?  Too much blue???

  • I do think that if your florists tucks them in more I think you would like it a lot more.  I understand the picture but, I also think it is a tad bit weird to have them "floating" like they are.  I like bouquets that are tight and the flowers flow from one to the other.

As for the amount of blue...I definitely don't think it will be too much blue.  That is the point of the white roses...the white will help to break up the blue color.

Yes.  I think it is too much blue.  The two blues seem very close in color (at least on my monitor) and you won't get the contrast in colors that makes the dress and the flowers both pop.  If you tuck in the orchides, you lose the lovely dimensional quality of that bouquet.  What about using fewer orchids in a different color?
  • Cornflower blue is such a pretty color with both sunshine yellow and bubblegum pink. You would not go wrong with either of those.  I would use one or the other but not both.
