Pomander and candle centerpieces?

Hi! This is my 1st post on the flowers board :)  We're on a tight buget but, if possible, I'd like to incorporate some type of flower into our centerpieces.  Our colors are black and white (damask tablecloths) and fuscia/magenta.  I was thinking that large pomander centerpieces with smaller votives around it might work but I haven't seen any decent photos of this.  I'd prefer to have the pomander on the table without a vase (I like the lower centerpieces).  I honestly don't even know if this is cheaper than a regular floral arrangement.  I suppose the backup plan would be an arrangement of candles?  Thoughts?  Thanks in advance!

You could do something like this? Maybe with less of them and candles? And you could bring in your color this way?

It depends on how you want the pomanders to look. Remember, these are flowers all the way around, so could be held straight up with some sort of stand to keep them from rolling. You could then put votive candles around them.

I made a pomander from cream colored foam roses and round styrofoam  I got at the Dollar Store. I think the foam was about 3-4" across. I stuck the metal rose stem in the foam, but also used hot glue around the base of the rose to make sure it stuck. It was for our flower girl, pic here:

For a table top, you could do this without the ribbon handle.

Our colors were also black, white/cream with silver accents. I made low rose centerpieces with roses and baby's breath I ordered from Costco (get them 3 days before your wedding, keep in cool place, they'll open perfectly).

The silver vases I used I bought from a local florist going out of business for $5 each. I think each arrangement had about 18 roses in it. I ordered 8 dozen roses from Costco by calling the local florist who arranges them at the local Costco. (you can get 100 roses for $89 online)

I made votive covers from vellum with various patterns, mostly black toile (similar to damask but floral).

I think your idea would work. If you want the blank template for the votive covers, just PM me. You need access to a photocopier and have to buy vellum paper which is sold at most hobby & craft stores, also at Office Max or Office Depot.

    Good luck.

white or magenta carnations are are pretty inexpensive and if you DIY, you'll save a bundle.  However, you would most likely have to do them the day of.  I would contact a couple local florists for pricing to see if it's in your budget.

Pomanders typically use a LOT of flowers to make a nice full one.

You might consider a low round shaped arrangement for a similar look. You can get small inexpensive "floral trays" to hold a small block of foam, or use the small floral foam cages typically used for pew clips placed on a small clear plastic plate.  Once the flowers are placed, the trays don't show much, if at all.

Ooh I really like that last photo.  The wedding is at a mansion and the tables are round and large so I think this would fill it up pretty well without looking to "staged".  Thanks ladies!!!
