Flower Petals for Aisle?

It's an outdoor ceremony and the venue require we use real flower petals as silk ones cause litter. Does anyone have any ideas on what kinds of petals to use and how much they'd be? I was thinking maybe tulip petals would be cheaper than rose, but I have no idea where to get them from (I know the obvious answer would be my florist, but we are likely not using a florist). Any ideas or recommendations? Thanks!

I've seen some at fiftyflowers.com Here's a link http://www.fiftyflowers.com/flowers/AllFlowersRosePetals_18.htm I haven't tried other sites but its worth checking out. What about where you are getting your flowers from?

I think you would find that tulips in the long run would be more expensive since there are only about 6 petals to a flower and would only be able to be available locally in March/April. In the grocery store bunches are about 10 stems for about $6-8 breaking down to about .11 cents per a petal going that route.

Roses on the other hand would be be the better way to go and are very reasonable if you want to get to the micro pricing of per petal comparing to tulips. The best deals in my area are from Costco where a bouquet is 24 roses for $14. Lets say they average 30 petals to a rose.... that comes out to about .019 cents per petal.  So yeah roses are cheaper.

As for the amount to use, it is just personal taste. You could to the sides only, the whole isle just sparse or have a petal carpet.

    Do what makes you happy.

We skipped petal altogether for our outdoor ceremony.  Then again, we didn't have a flower girl either.

Thanks for the feedback, ladies. I like the idea of just the sides. Looks nice and is probably affordable.

Just pick up a few bunches of roses t the supermarket... Or costco if you have one.. but shipping will cost more than you need to spend if you go that way.

I would do rose petals. You could probably find them at any local florist or buy the roses yourself and just pick off the petals.
