Roses vs. Gerbera Daisies

I'm having a May afternoon outdoor wedding, semi-formal (guys in suits, not tuxes, h'ourdvre reception). Our colors are red, black, and ivory. Since we are trying to keep this more semi-formal, and I really just want to use the same flower throughout, a florist I met with suggested going with red Gerbera's rather than red roses to "tone down the affair". Would red and/or white roses create a too formal atmosphere since I want to keep it somewhat laid back?

Not at all.  I think either is fine.  We had a more laid-back wedding and used both roses and gerber daisies (and other flowers) and I don't think that it made it too formal or too casual.

Personally, I like roses way better than gerbers and it sounds like you do too.  You can though go with whatever flower you want.  Having all roses is fine for basically any kind of wedding.

Thanks for the opinions. I suppose roses are probably more expensive...who knows but I need to decide quick :)

You can use whatever flower you like.  It really all comes down to how those flowers are used.  If you are having extravagant and large/tall centerpieces then that would lean more towards formal while just haiving a low mound of roses would lean more towards semi-formal.  Also, roses and gerbs are about the same in price.  If you are still undecided you could always do a mixture of the two which would like nice as well.

Not at all!  Roses are a classic wedding flower.  They can be so beautiful.  Why not try spray roses; with some gerberas?
