Lotus

Hello everyone! I'm in the beginning phases of planning my wedding and have a question about flowers. I'm having an Idian-inspired wedding and was wondering if anyone has ever used lotus flowers in their wedding? If so, how hearty are they and did they hold up well? I'm considering using them in my bouquets, but I know they're a "water lily" and I'm not sure how well they'll hold up outside of water. Any information would be sooo appreciated! Thanks :)

Maybe silk would be a better way to go if you want to incorporate lotus. Also, it is an Indian tradition to use marigold garlands for the couple to wear and also to decorate with.

real lotus flowers are usually cost prohibitive and they are difficult to work with. Lotus want to close up in the evening and will open again when the sun shines. I would also suggest using silk in this case.

Thanks for the advice, everyone!! I'm totally not opposed to silk flowers, and the marigolds would be really unique! :)

Water Lilies/ Lotus flowers are very difficult to work into wedding bouquets and centerpieces. They bloom quickly and close quickly. There are ways to keep them open, but it is still difficult to do. If you are set on using water lilies, then I would suggest using them in the centerpieces and not the bouquets, I would just be afraid that they would not hold up well the entire day.

    Hope it helps!!
