First meeting with Florist

Ok I'm getting married on June 1st have 9 bridesmaids & groomsmen want to keep the cost down as much as possible without giiving up my flowers of choice.  Anemones, roses, hydrangeas, and garden roses. Ok ways to cut the cost down?? Advice? What questions about I ask?? Thanks!

Re: First meeting with Florist

  • Keep it simple.

Have your girls carry one stem of hydrangea or just a few stems of roses (bouts really are not that expensive to begin with).

Keep your centerpieces simple.  The more flowers you add to the mix the more expensive they are going to cost.  You can always have 3 small vases on each table with a different grouping of flowers in each vase such as 1 vase with hydrangea, another vase with roses and another with anemones.

Also, you can split your centerpieces in half and do half the tables with flowers and the other half with floating candles, votives and rose petals.

Take pictures of things that you like such as style, color, size, etc.  Ask about the availability of the flowers you love (you may need to be flexible).

And above all, tell your florist your budget right at the get go.  This way you both will be on the same field and your florist will be able to be creative and design things that not only will create the look you are going for but will stay within your budget.

  • Thanks so much by the way I love your bouquet those are somewhat the colors I am going for purples, lavender, ivory and maybe some pale pinks.  Which flowers do you have in yours?
  • I think I had...
    Hydrangea
    Stock
    Roses
    Lisianthus
    Orchids
    and Hypericum berries

These were my centerpieces...I did half and half

  • I would use a lot of hydrangea. It's big so a lot of bang for your buck and its really easy to arrange. From those choices I would use the anemone for the bouts. I have never seen a rose bout that wasn't too heavy and bulky on the lapel.

I think at this point in time you are stressing to much about something that does not need to be decided for a long time. You need to let your professional florist help you make the color choices.. JMO
  • I bought my bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages on Etsy and absolutely loved them, that way I got exactly the flower I wanted - check out the store, very reasonable and the silk flowers were absoutely beautiful - https://www.etsy.com/shops/lovetheblooms. I then had my florist make the centerpieces.  Saved myself alot of money and headaches.

  • My FI and I are having a beach wedding, so I am making my own centerpieces, with candles, sand and seashells. So all I am needing as far as flowers go, are the bouts, bouquets and corsages and I am possibly thinking about using real flowers for the WP and silk flowers for the parents and grandparents.
