Fake flowers are not classy. They are tacky.

Purchase less flowers and less expensive flowers. Shop around for a better price.

Keep in mind that good silk flowers are almost as expensive as the real ones.  You can pick inexpensive real flowers to keep your costs down (I'm doing daisies) or even get them from a grocery store and make your own bouquets and bouts.

I agree with pp.  Keep the costs down and still go with real flowers.  Have you ever seen carnations tightly packed together?  They are beautiful... and cheap.  There are many videos on the internet that walk you step by step on making your own bouquets.  Also, look for alternatives for flowers.  When it comes to your centerpieces you can do all candles, vases filled with fruit, seashells.  Google can be your best friend for getting ideas.

Fake flowers can be lovely. I made all of my own fake flower bouquets for under $100 and they looked real. I did however, choose not to use flowers on the tables. I figured, The bouquets were ok because no one would really be close enough to tell and I didn't want to do all of that work for cernterpieces. I used candels on the tables instead.

I was going to use silk until we had our meetings with florists, then I realized a "nice" silk was almost just as expensive as real!
