Centerpieces with out stems!?

I love the look of the floral arrangement on top of the glass cylinder vase with out the stems showing in the vase. How is this done?

Re: Centerpieces with out stems!?

  • Small plastic floral dishes are used to hold wet floral foam...the flowers are then arranged in the floral foam and the plastic dish is stuck onto the top of the cylinder by using green or white floral clay so that the dish will not fall off the top of the cylinder and onto your guests.

My florist wrapped this green plant-stuff around the inside of my vases so the stems wouldn't show--I can't remember what it was called though.

ETA:  I looked at my contract:  it was aspidestra leaf

It was probably a banana leaf or something similar.
