First florist appt - is this a good price?

OK so we got our quote back from the florist and it's $820 for:

6 bouquets
9 boutonnieres
6 corsages

It also includes taxes and the delivery charge.  My bouquet is orchids (which I know are more expensive) but the rest of the flowers are daisy varieties and inexpensive, in-season flowers.  My question is: is this a good price?  Is it comparable to quotes you all have received?  We were trying to keep the flowers minimal and inexpensive.  Initially I was thinking $500 or under.  But before I ask the florist how I can reduce the cost, I want to make sure I'm not being unreasonable...

TIA for your help!!!

I'm sure it will depend on your location and the types of flowers chosen, but for comparison I had two large bouquets (bride and MOH), two small bouquets (just three daisies for jr bridesmaids), 5 bouts and 3 corsages.

The large bouquets were roses, peonies and gerbera daisies, the small bouquets were just gerbera daisies, two bouts were the daises, the three father bouts and three mother corsages were orchids.  Total cost was just under $400. (this was a super fantastic price in my area)

Depending on the size of the bouquets, I don't think that's unreasonable.  Mine was in the 600s for 5 bouquets, 5 boutonnieres, 8 corsages.
    I was just doing roses.

    that is CRAZY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if that included centerpieces then that would be okay...

IM using Orchids and roses for the following

    4corsages,
    6 bouts
     my bouquet
    toss bouquet

& ALL orchids for my centerpieces and spending only $200 TOTAL (Im DIY'n it )

that price just seems outrageous, but if its in your budget , go right ahead!

It is not completely out of line for a large Texas city.  Using my 2009 prices, I came up with over $700 (and I had all roses).  However, I do recommend getting more than one quote.  Try the Houston local board for some recommendations.

no it is not crazy....there are 5 bridesmaids bokays and 9 bout's,if it came in under $500 you are getting a deal especially if her bokay has orchids in it.

I agree with PP. It seems a little high to me. I'd keep looking at other florists.

@jennandchad, try AlwaysFloral in Spring. I have an appt with her this afternoon and she has a deal on her website for much more than those things you listed above for $525 + tax. She's done great work and everyone I've talked to loves Sabrina. Let me know what you think!

I should have mentioned this initially, but we're getting married in Baltimore (where I'm from and where we met).  The Baltimore board isn't very active so I figured I'd check here first.  I forgot my profile said Houston!  Which is where we currently live, sorry!  Thanks anyway Texas, ladies!!

The florist I talked to seemed really nice and she got all positive reviews on wedding wire so I'm thinking I may talk to her about how I can reduce costs.  Maybe I won't mention a specific price, but I'll just say we are trying to keep the cost down.  And maybe we'll meet with another florist too, just for comparison purposes.

I'd say definitely meet with more than one.  I met with 3 before I decided.

I live about 40 minutes outside Baltimore so I know the area well.  I would say that the price quoted is pretty reasonable for the area.  You have to remember that you aren't just paying for the flowers, you are also paying for the labor that goes into making the bouquets, bouts and corsages.  I used to work in a florist for 8 years and trust me when I tell you that arranging flowers into a bouquet and such is not as easy as one may think.  Also, are you having them delivered?  If so, I am sure there is a delivery fee that you have to pay for as well.

I do agree that if you aren't happy with the price or unsure if it is too high, talk with another florist or two to compare.

    Good luck!

that is too expensive. since your wedding is not in your hometown i can imagine what a pain it is to make appointments for florists, etc. but i would recommend getting quotes from elsewhere.
