white bouquet v color...help

Hey there Brides! I've got a little question for you to ponder here. I'm finally on the hunt for a florist and I'm not sure what bouquet I want. I've always wanted dark red roses and dark red callas, but now that I am seeing all of the fantastic white/ivory bouquets.... I'm stuck as to what I want. My dress is ivory and my bridesmaids will be wearing black and will have red roses as their bouquet. My fiance is all about the white for he and I, but.... Almost every florist I have talked to said to think twice about white... Thoughts???

why would florist say to think twice about white? i don't really understand.

anyways for your color scheme, since your BMs are wearing black i think it would be cool if they had white bouquets. and with your ivory dress i think your original idea of dark red bouquets sounds really nice. you'll have that hit of color amongst the black and white.

but go with whatever your vision is and what you'll be happiest with. if you want a white bouquet go for it. if you want a red one that will be lovely too.

I had an all white bouquet. I carried this over to DH, and my dad's bouts being all white and my mom's corsage being all white.  Everyone else's flowers were yellow.

I don't know why florists are saying to think twice.

I think you should go with whatever you like/prefer.  However I would imagine the florist is suggesting some color to make it pop...white on white or ivory on ivory isn't going to show up as well as some color would...but it really is what you like/prefer!

I LOVE all-white/ivory bouquets, but it's a personal choice. If roses and cala lilies are your favorite flowers, it's even more difficult because those come in any colors. It's all about what fits with your vision!

I agree with the PP.  My vision was all white flowers so that is what I had and my florist never tried to tell me otherwise.

Yours was my second choice color scheme--black dresses with red roses.  I agree that either white flowers or red flowers will be lovely.

I love the look of all white/ivory flowers, either for the whole WP or just the bride and groom.  You can't hardly go wrong with that timeless look of classic elegance.

I think the florist was inserting her own personal opinion.  Many people feel that when bouquet flowers are the same color as the dress, they sometimes blend in and don't show up well.  That is why some people prefer to have colorful bouquets, to make the color "pop".

BUT, personally, I feel that sometimes that pop of color can be too distracting, and that the bouquet flowers should compliment or enhance the look of the person and their attire, not be the main focus.  This is more of an issue with the bridesmaids, not so much with the bride's flowers.

No matter what kind of flowers the bride has, she (and her dress) will always be the main focus, either in person, or in photos.  So I think all white or simpler, more subdued flowers look better with a more elaborate wedding gown, and very colorful or elaborate flowers look better with a simpler gown.

I think it's all about personal preference. I personally like colored bouquets. I love how the color pops against a white dress, but I have also seen pretty white bouquets. You should just do whatever you want.

There is nothing more elegant than ivory coloured roses with an ivory gown.  Add some greenery, WOW.  Red roses with the black dresses, YES.  I should know, I've been a floral designer for 40 years.  Bunches Bob
