Thoughts on orange flowers?

I'm having a fall wedding with bridesmaids in espresso brown dresses with burnt orange bows (style and colors here: http://www.alfredangelo.com/Collections/ProductDisplay.aspx?style=7017s)...I really want orange flowers, but the price I'm getting for a mix of orange roses and orange gerber daisys is higher than I'd like to pay.

Does anyone know of any other nice (inexpensive) orangey flowers?

Also, I asked one of my bridesmaids opinions on the matter, and she's totally against carrying the orange. She suggested white and thinks only I should have orange, and claims that it's going to be too much orange with the orange in the dress...I think maybe she just doesn't want to carry orange flowers. Anyone have any opinons on other colors that would look good? (to maybe mix in)

Tiger lilies are a great orange color.  You can also use orange alstromeria, orange spray roses, and orange/burnt orange daisies/mums.  If you like the mix of roses and gerbs though maybe you could adjust the size of the bouquet till the price gets to where you are comfortable...your florist should be able to help you with this.

As for your one bridesmaid...she may have her opinion but you don't have to listen to it.  I definitely don't think it would be too much orange...the dresses are primarily brown so the orange will pop nicely.  And IMO...white? really?  you are getting married in one of the best times of the year for beautiful colors...take advantage of it...use yellows and golds and browns and purples and bright greens and oranges and reds (just think of the colors of the changing leaves)...leave the white for your dress :)

If you want just roses and gerber daisies, maybe they could do smaller arrangements with spray roses and mini gerbers? Both tend to be half the price/stem of their full-sized counterparts.

Is it specifically the color orange that is making the flowers more expensive or is the type/amount of flowers?

I personally dislike the color orange, but it's your wedding and you shouldn't be swayed by anyone else's opinion.

White roses or gerbera daisies are generally inexpensive as far as flowers go. Carnations are also very inexpensive. If you're committed to orange, maybe try orange tulips?

The best way to stretch a dollar when buying flowers is to buy in season flowers.  That would mean mums, (spider mums are really pretty but I am not sure if they are available in orange).  Alstomeria (a lily like flower) is available year round as PP mentioned.  Gerberas and roses are off season which increases their price.

Orange and purple looks great together and stattice is a good filler flower.  Statice is only available in purple and white but is available year round.

There are three or four types of lilies that are orange (in addition to the tiger lilies PP mentioned.

Are you adverse to berries?  Bittersweet is an orange berry on a branch that is prolific in November.  Don't let it anywhere near your personal garden.  They are also dried seed pods in shades of brown that can add an interesting dimension to flowers.

Everyone will have opinions.  Politely listen and then follow your heart.    Happy planning.

I'm doing orange flowers too! My original plan was tiger lilies, but I may do these: http://www.fiftyflowers.com/product/Dark-Orange-Hybrid-Lily_48.htm I'm also going to add some lighter orange or yellow ones to my bouquet :)
