Flowers

DIY bouquets

a friend asked me today about DIY bouquets and i'm not sure how to answer her- as i have not gotten to that part of my planning yet.

When making your own bouquets, how soon in advance do you buy your flowers?

If buying from Sam's Club/ Costco- can you special order flowers? - if so, how?

Her wedding is in May, she went to Sam's club and loved their selection, will those flowers still be available in May or should be special order?

Any other info you feel is helpful...  TIA

Some flowers are seasonal but now-a-days you can get almost any type of flower all year long (but just remember that depending on the time of year some flower prices will either go up or down depending on if it is readily available).  If she is interested in buying through Sam's she should write down which flowers she likes the most (colors and type) and speak with a customer service person to find out how the ordering process goes.  I know you can order bulk flowers on Sam's Club's website but I would still talk to someone first.

Also, if she does decide to DIY her bouquets tell her to make a mock-up of everything that she is planning on doing (a bouquet, centerpiece, etc), this way she will be able to see how much she uses which will help with determining the quantity of flowers.  My best advice for DIYing your own flowers is to stick with, at the most, three types of flowers and keep the arrangements basic (unless you are a professional florist).

Finally, she should really speak with a florist firs to get a quote on what she wants.  See what they can offer her in regards to her budget.  If it is something she likes than she can avoid the headache of DIYing her own flowers which could be stressful.

Most of the bulk sellers I've looked at will have you order based on the date you want them to arrive by and they will do the math so that your flowers arrive by the date requested. You should have them arrive 2-3 days before your event so that you can condition them.

I'm using Sam's and will use their website. It is pretty self-explanitory on the website-- just like any other online shopping tool. You can always talk to a local Sam's florist in person for more help or to see if you can order things not online.

The flowers that I've seen on their website are always available, although they have added/changed some things in the past few months. Unless the flowers in-store were something special or unique, I'd imagine that they'd always be able to get you lillies, carnations, roses, etc. If you are hoping to go get them from the store a few days prior to your wedding, though, I'd special order just to make sure they're there.
