Flowers

Flowers for parents?

Is anyone out there NOT providing some sort of corsage/boutinniere for their parents at their wedding?  We're not planning on doing anything like that for our parents, but I'm starting to think that we're just oblivious, and someone (namely my tradition-obsessed stepmother) will have hurt feelings about it.

Re: Flowers for parents?

  • I really wish I had skipped corsages actually--my grandmothers weren't happy about pinning them on their dresses.  We did nosegay bouquets for our mothers and they liked them.  I really wanted to do pocket squares for the GMs instead of bouts but my DH is traditional and he wanted them.

I don't think it's the end of the world if you don't do them.
  • we made wrist corsages for our mothers and grandmother.... all the groomsmen dads and grandpa we made bouts for... but its really up to you.

  • We had bouquets for the mothers and grandmothers; boutineres for the fathers and brothers and corsages for the sisters.   We gave the mothers and grandmothers a choice of corsage or nosegay bouquets.  They all chose nosegay bouquets.
  • I have been both a MOB and MOG.  My son and his bride opted to use minimal flowers.  Neither I or the brides mom cared at all that we did not carry flowers.

Typically, the flowers are used, in part, to designate "special people".  The grandparents at my daughters wedding (on both sides) were a bit old school and looked forward to that designation.  I think its pretty obvious as to "who is who" in most weddings.

I suggest you speak with the people you are considering for flowers.  If they don't care, then save yourself some money.  If they do feel the need for being "embellished", even a single flower stem can be appropriate and sufficient.
