Flowers

is this too monochrmoatic an idea, is it too dull? advice, please!

Hey yall, Not sure what board to post thi to, so flowers is where I am, so flowers is where I'll start...
my wedding is on a superbudget, and while I like the idea of my colors, I want some opinions before I get all deffo on committing myself to them.
I have white and ivory as my two colors for table linens and flowers--white table cloth, satin ivory runners, and clear glass vases, apothecary jars with whit e shells, flaoting candles, silk Callas submerged in them, and a few hundred bucks of cream/white roses and callas. I plan to use peacock feathers for color adn there in lies the problem--is that enough? I made a mock up the other day and I was sort of "eh, meh" with it, though the idea was really nice, with the mixes of textures, the lack of any pop of color was sort of bugging me. F thought it looked great. I wasn and am still 'errr..hmm" I've got white seashells, starfish, etc and the cake is also cream/ivory color with repeated starfish, shells, etc on it. I really liked the idea of just the feathers (in abundance mixed in with the flowers, all of them) being where your eye goes for color, but I'm sorta kinda not convinced it's quite there yet. I aslo scattered some of the glass blobs in blues and greens on the tablecloth adn they perked things up a lot.
What would you do to liven things up? Chang the satin runners for jewel tone ones? change the flower colors, maybe some deep rich dark callas?
I dunno. Knotties, please put on your DIY/Budget caps and lend a creative hand, I'd be most grateful .

    LOL at "glass blobs".

As I read your post, my thought was how lovely cream & white are by themselves. I think they are very elegant, and I've seen articles in wedding magazines regarding all white weddings. Do you think you HAVE to have another color? If so, why?

If you think you need another color, then I'd ask the following:
-what color dresses are your bridesmaids wearing?
-are there predominant colors at your venue that you can live with as accent colors? If so, you could bring those into your tablescape and floral arrangements

I checked your bio and see you are getting married in August of this year. White is fresh and looks great in the inspiration pics you have.

I personally like white & cream with either gold or silver. What color are your plates? If the flatware is silver, I'd do some silver accents and leave it at that. Maybe some inexpensive silver votives, or silver "blobs", or a mirror under your arrangements. A few silver candlesticks on some of the tables. You can spray paint some shells and starfish in silver (I did this for my Xmas tree, turned out great!, Christmas Tree Shoppes have lots of shells in bulk) and put them on your tables, in your glass vases and mix with your white shells. You could also use gold & silver together in any of these, and with the white they'd look classy & elegant.

The other thing I think of, with all the sea-themed things, is either light blue & green or one of them alone. I'm not a "themey" person, but if you are using the sea type items, then the natural things that go with the sea, like water & grass, would seem to be the natural color choices.

Good luck. I think you can do whatever you want, in a minimal way with white & cream, and create a great look!

If you have some of the peacock colors elsewhere in your wedding, then that makes sense to use them. If you just like the look of the peacock feathers (I do!) then I would suggest changing your table runners to one of the subtle colors in the feathers -- a soft green would blend both the brilliance of the feathers with your ivory flowers. Try repeating the soft green in the candles and see if that gives you the pop you are looking for. Another way to incporprate them would be to have various types of vases. Use a taller vase (cylinder, etc.) with 2 or 3 tall calla lillies and some of the peacock feathers and then do smallr vases with a full round bouquet of the roses and other flowers. Vary them on your tables and tie the whole together with a unifying table runner color and candle color.

i think since you don't have a dark color for contrast you're losing depth. i agree with the pp changing the table runner color or having different height vases.

    other suggestions:
maybe using natural white flowers that have a dark center like gerbera daisies or anemones. also adding dark colored greenery will add interest and compliment the peacock feathers. i dont think seashells and such would go with the peacock feathers, but you could get stones or marbles in dark green or brown to put at the bottom of the vases.

the main thing is just adding a dark color as an accent that will help make your light color scheme more dramatic.

Hey, thanks a bunch for the ideas and thoughts! I am going to do another mock up with some silver bits added--I think that will make it enough of a contrast with the light tones that it will help, and i think I will add some darker green vegetation.....pllus, some other glass blobs (heh heh) and see how it looks then. I appreciate the feedback!

You mentioned shells and starfish. Is your theme ocean or tropical? If so, then where do the peacock feathers fit it. Just for color? I think I would do a  table runner for color if it is tropical themed, and leave it alone if it is not. Good luck, I am sure it will be lovely.

I love the monochromatic look of all cream and white.  Don't mistake understated elegance for "boring".  Don't forget you are looking at an empty table in those colors.  On your wedding day, the room and tables will be full of guests.

The peacock feather are also a lovely touch to add a bit of color and interest, without taking anything away from the elegant monochromatic look.

You don't "need" a pop of color unless you just want it.  Sometimes that pop of color can be too overwhelming, and distract from the people in photos, rather than adding to them.
