I JUST made pomanders for my flower girls (we have 2) w/ fake flowers i bought at michaels.  It was sooo easy!  I bought 4 inch styrofome balls (white), flowers, and dress pins (with pearl ends), and purple ribbon.  I basically cut the ribbon however long i wanted the handle to be and then 4 inches (at least) of slack to be pinned into the flower - 2 inches on either side of the handle.  I tore the fake flowers off the steam and attached them to the styfoam ball with the dress pin as the center of the flowers (mulitple flowers/pins on top of the ribbon to keep it from falling off the ball).  It was very easy and i think i just googled it to see how it was done (in case my directions suck).   It was a great DIY project and i'm sooo glad i did it!

    Good luck!

I've actually made quite a few of these at my work (florist) and I love the way they look when the bridal party carries them!

Ones made from silk flowers will be easier to make since you do not have to worry about keeping fresh flowers alive, but it can be done with real flowers as well.

What I would suggest if you want to use fresh cut flowers is to invest in Oasis foam balls in your desired size, probably around a 6inch diameter. These you can soak in water and then cut the stems of the flowers you plan to use and stick them until the foam is covered. For added security, I would utilize low temp hot glue, or floral glue to ensure your flowers stay in place.

Often times around fall, craft stores, florsits and grocery store florists will have fall colored fake leaves. These could be very nice in between more structured flowers such as roses and give it a bit of a free-form feeling to your pomanders. I hope this helped a bit :)
