Flowers

diy wedding flowers

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried buying bulk flowers from like sams or globalrose and then hiring a florist to arrange/deliver?  I want tons of big arrangements but there is no way i can afford that without some DIY.  It seems like you could save some money this way if a florist was willing to do it.

I'm not sure how that would work unless  you knew someone who was a florist.

I am getting my flowers from flowersandfreshness.com and fiftyflowers.com and we are doing all of the aranging.

Have you thought of doing some of the flowers yourself (like simple bouquettes, corsages, and most centerpieces) and then hiring a florist for a few big arrangements?

thats a great idea and i think would work great for bouquets and bouts, but my main concern is getting centerpieces to the reception.  I dont want to worry about that at all or ask someone to do it.

I will be ordering my bouquet flowers from costco online, via one of their wedding packages (very reasonable). I also intend to buy bulk flowers from there for my centerpieces.

I'm not sure you would find a florist willing to just arrange flowers you bought. I plan to ask my "day of wedding coordinator" to do this, with specific instructions, or do it myself a day before the wedding and have her set them out.

    Good luck.

there is not one florist I know that would even consider that. You are payimg a professional for their knowledge. Would you ask your caterer if you could bring them food to cook?or go to a restaurant and take a steak for them to cook? Come on girls,DIY is just that...you don't want to pay someone for their professioal services.Have you even talked to a florist? You know they can tailor your flowers to your budget.....they can also advise you as to what flowers to use.

I did actually ask a florest if I provided the flowers if I could pay her to do the arranging for me.  She flat out said NO, and that was the end of that.  We ordered our flowers from theflowerexchange.com and they were BEAUTIFUL, and we had to make every arrangement ourselves.  Granted my centerpieces were just a single calla lily in a bud vase, so it was simple.  If you don't know the florest personally, they won't do it.  By accepting the flowers, they feel they are taking responsibility for them and their quality.  If they come to you looking less than perfect, they are afraid you will blame them, even though they are not responsibile for where the flowers came from.  Good luck!
