Florist says she won't get my flower...

So, I'm having a destination wedding in Lake Placid, NY and there aren't too many good florists to choose from, locally.  I had a meeting with a florist that has a very good reputation the other day.  However, when I named a few of the flowers that I want in my bouquet, she said no.  She said that they wouldn't be available.  Do I just accept that answer because she's the professional?  Or, do I look elsewhere and see if someone can accomodate me?  My favorite flowers are anemones and poppies.  She says these won't be in season for an early June wedding.  I thought they were spring flowers.  Undecided
Please help!

Re: Florist says she won't get my flower...

  • Yes, poppies and anemones are spring flowers but taking into account how the weather has been over the year she may be right in telling you that they will not be available.  Temperature is a big part of when flowers bloom and since it has been quite warmer then usual earlier in the season the poppy and anemone season may have come earlier then expected.  Once the temperature reaches a certain degree these flowers stop blooming because it is too hot.

BUT, for the right price any flower is available year round because they can be imported from other countries.  I would talk with your florist once again and see if she can get these flowers imported by her wholesaler.  Just know that if you go this route it may cost you a pretty penny.  This is why I tend to tell people that they should not set their hopes on only one or two types of flowers, especially those that are available only at certain times of the year, because since they are flowers a guarantee is never available.

  • Take her word for it. The weather is just so crazy everywhere. If she has a great reputation I'm pretty sure she's telling you the truth. If you want a second opinion, ask other florists as well.
  • I should have added that my wedding is not this year but next!  So, it kind of put me off that she would be so bold as to predict what flowers would be available during that time, already.

I'd trust her experience. If she says they won't be avalible, even if it's a year away, I'd believe her. If you're really set on them, talk to another florist and see what they say.

I would trust her experience if she has a good reputation, sometimes they are available, but she knows that they don't look good and so she refuses to work with them so she isn't sending out a substandard product.  It's also possible her wholesaler doesn't have them available during that time, two of the flowers I really wanted are not available anywhere for 2 weeks out of the year, and my wedding is during that time.
  • I was told the same thing about anemones by the 3 florists we've met with so far (our wedding is also in June of next year & we're pretty close by, in RI).

  • Thanks ladies :)  My Mom also reminded me that I shouldn't let a flower or two make me upset because... I'm getting MARRIED!  Mom's are so smart...
  • <div>If you really want a certain kind of flower and that's the picture you have for your perfect day then you should not take no for answer!  You can always preorder custom made silks that are exactly how you want them.  Here's some ideas of custom bouquets on Etsy.  </div><div>

</div><div>You just have to decide what is more important for you, having real flowers or having them look like the ones you want.</div><div>

I have weddings this week end and I have beautiful anemonies and ranunculus.   They are out of guatamala . They are available and will be for most of the rest of the summer. Unfortunatley some florists do not educate themselves nor do they keep up with all the avenues that become available to them to procure flowers.  Now days ,there are very few flowers that are not available year round.
  • dont listen!!!!! those flowers are in season a that time and if they cant be gotten in that area they can ALWAYS be shiped in. people have flowers shiped in from other countrys. so shiping the from somewhere else in the US where  they have bloomed should be no prblem. it may be a bit pricey but it can be done
