Flowers

Losing sleep over a wilting worry.

Hi all.

FI and I have months to go before the wedding but this particular flower related issue has been plaguing my mind recently.

I am not too into flowers, so the center piece and bouquet ideas that I have involve very minimal flowers (calas) and some peacock feathers for a little extra something. Because the look is so simple and involves so few flowers (maybe three stems per CP) I've been thinking about DIY-ing everything.

So what I am here for is looking to see if I am crazy for this. I have no doubt in my artistic/crafty ability to put the things together, my doubt comes in the time to get them to the venue and the time to have them set up. I worry about the flowers wilting in the CP vases if I drop them off at the venue the day before. Or running into a time crutch the day of if I wait till then to put them together.

I know my local board can help me find some reasonably priced florists to weigh the financial costs but I thought it might be a good idea to come here and see if my wilting worries are worth the time and money to check into a florist.

TIA

Most florist start making wedding flowers on Wednesday or Thursday for a Sat wedding and then put them in their coolers. You should have no problem, especially using callas in a vase of water.  Just keep them in a cool room away from the air conditioner vents.  Make your boutineers the morning of.

I think you'll probably be fine with calla lilies.  They're hardy, long lasting flowers and are also very easy to work with. Just make sure to keep them out of sunlight and heat, and replace the water daily.

Go here and look at the product details, and flower care tabs for standard white callas:

With callas you really shouldn't have the problem. They are really hardy flowers. If you are still concerned I would buy a few stems at a florist or somewhere else you know that they are inexpensive and put them in a vase see how they do. Store them like you would your CP and that will give you the answer and put your mind at ease! Hope this helps:)
