Yay for boots! You should show pictures :)

I'm hoping to find a couch today. Our apartment is so empty without it! I just need anything comfy and used so I can use a slip cover on it. I put up my ikea bookshelves and they were perfect!

  • Rose, I will sell you hubby's Salvation Army leather couch that smells vaguely of cat pee.  Then I can just tell him I don't know what happened to it.  =)

So, earlier I bragged that the BM dress I need is on sale for like $60...  It's because it's discontinued, and there's not a single store in North Texas that carries the right color and right size.  =(  I called the bride and of course sent her into a tizzy, so now I feel really bad for not getting my act together.  My only solace is that none of the other bridesmaids have their dresses yet, either.  One ordered it, but it's been taking forever, and now we know it's because they aren't producing those anymore.

I know.  I feel really, really, REALLY bad.  I had a legit reason to wait, and I guess I should tell her, but I don't really want a bunch of our friends (and certainly not MIL or I will never have another moment of peace) knowing that we are TTC until things are certain.  She says she's more mad at David's about it, because apparently she'd had some kind of agreement that they would notify her if any of her choices were discontinued.  In the grand scheme of things, I'm sure a million worse things could happen leading up to one's wedding day.

  • Haha, yeah.  H is a bit of a slob.  He's gotten better since he's had to live with another person, but it's been an adventure.  When he had his own place, he would let it just degenerate into a horrible mess, finding amusement in my disgust.  I've told him he can keep the couch as long as he was a bachelor, but we are not taking it to Pampa with us.

I am sorry about the BM dress Amanda. I am sure Bride will care more about having a cohesive look than some dreamt "vision". There must be another dress that is somewhat similar.

My invitations shipped out from vistaprint today :) I can't wait to receive them. Oh- and I get to go photograph my soroity sister's twin baby girls next weekend. Can we please just go ahead and roll our eyes from all the cuteness that will ensue?

That's what I told her.  I also told her that if she picks a style that is more recent, the shipping time will be cut way down since they are mass-produced.  I know that my BM dresses were in within two weeks of ordering.  I think that's what she's most freaked out about.  Wedding is in three months and they told her it would take up to 8 weeks to get the old dresses in.  =(

  • Random - but does anyone know homeless Leslie from Austin? He's basically a local legend, and when I was 18 and went to visit the city for the first time, as an innocent girl from a small farm town, I was utterly freaked out by the 50 year old man walking around in high heels and a thong. I feel like most people I knew in college at A&M were familiar with Leslie.
Anyways, he died today, and the news story is blowing up.

That's sad. Didn't he try running for mayor once? I have at least a few pictures with him. I know he was famous for being crazy, but I think that it adds to some of the "Keep Austin Weird" nostalgia.

Yeah, a couple of years back. He had a pretty serious head injury in 2009, and they're saying he died from complications of that injury.
I know I've got a picture with him from a few years after my first encounter with him, which I was too shocked to do anything but stare.
He's really nice... but of course you would have to be to be so 'famous'.
  • I saw that!  How sad.  Last I'd heard, he was moving to CO.  =(

Also, watching this storm roll in through my classroom window is pretty amazing.  The clouds look ominous and beautiful.

Hahahahaha.  When I was in college in OKC, I was out with two girlfriends -- one from Arkansas, one from Texas -- when the sirens started going off.  We were leaving Wal-Mart, so we decided to just drive on back to the dorm and not worry about it, until it started to hail.  We went back to the Wal-Mart for a bit, the hail let up, and we decided to go (the other Arkansan and I were pretty much unfazed).  We listened to the radio, though, and learned that a tornado had touched down really close to our school, so we decided to pull over.  The best place we could find was a Burger King inside a gas station, but we figured their freezer would be one of the safest places if the worst happened.  When we stopped, I waited outside to look for funnels, while the Texan friend called her father, told her she was about to die, and started listing all the things she wished she'd had the time to say to him.  Eventually one of the BK employees creeped us out enough that we decided we'd rather brave the weather (which turned out to be not bad at all) than stay in a small space with him, so we went back to school.  =)

</div><div>That might just be my most favorite story I've heard about texans and weather! I lived through a tornado tearing my house apart with me in it here in Dallas but I was the freak kid who kept wanting more to come back because I thought they looked cool. I do remember when I was a kid in school though for any little weather warning we all had to go into the halls and duck our heads between our legs against the wall. I always thought that was odd.

  • I grew up in very north Texas... 10 minutes away from the Red River. We had tornado drills twice a year to go to the school's storm cellar, and twice while I was there we actually had to use them. One time at home we also had to use the storm cellar, and my dad had to run out and get the dog just in the nick of time. But my dad would pull us kids on top of the barn as the tornado rolled in, until the last possible second, while my mom screamed at him from the ground to get us down and get in the cellar.

... gawd I sound so WT.

This literally made me say "Oh FFS" out loud.

My hubs is a FREAK about storms (he grew up in AZ) and thinks it's unnatural that I want to go outside to watch for funnels, and also that I open all the blinds during a thunderstorm cause I love the lightning. I told him the closet in our guest bath, which extends to a hidey-hole under the stairs is where he needs to just stay during those suckers.

  • All this storm talk and I'm stuck in San Diego because of the "weather" there! They're not letting any flights leave for Dallas, although the plane just landed here. Hoping it's not more than an hour delay at this point, ugh!
  • In Tulsa we had tornado drills once a month.  In eighth grade, everyone forgot which alarm was for tornados and which was for fire, so the first tornado drill of the year, we all (led by our teachers) evacuated the building thinking it was for fire.  After that, they replaced the fire alarm with an actual voice that says, "FIRE!  FIRE!"

Good news though I'm back in the gym and able to workout again. Pain free is a good feeling.
