Confused about tulips

I'm getting married in late July of next year.  Some books and sites say that tulips are a spring flowers.  Other places say that they are available all year long.  Does anyone know for sure?  TIA

You can get anything all year...it will just cost you way more.  Tulips are absolutely a spring flower in the US, but they can be ordered from other countries.  Picking flowers that are in season in your area will save you a substantial amount of money, but, if you are willing to pay I'm sure they will be glad to get tulips for you any time of the year.

I would advise against them - they wilt REALLY quickly!  My aunt had tulips for her bouquets, and I remember by the time we were walking down the aisle, they were drooped over our hands.  Yeah, not very sturdy!

And they're a spring flower, but now adays flowers can be hot-housed most of the year so they're AVAILABLE, you'd just have to ask the florists when they're less expensive.

I'm getting tulips for my august wedding. Its going to be warm and probably not too perfect but I'm going to submerge the tulips in my centerpeice so they won't be too exposed. As for the girls bouquets we're just keeping them in the fridge until the last possible moment and putting them back in the water after pictures.

They are more expensive- on the bulk flower websites their about $110 for 50 stems. Just something you have to decide if you want to splurge on :/

Tulips are a spring bulb flower so they are a seasonal flower.

But if could be possible if you have the right florist they might be able to get you the tulips you want. Depends on what connections your florist has

Not absoluetly sure but I think they grow tulips in South America along with Holland of course.

Most florist get their flowers from a supplier ....the supplier gets them directly from an auction house like the one in Aalsmeer Holland or a wholesale nursery.

    Good luck with that

I'm not sure what your plans are, but, if you do want tulips, I"d advise against DIY.

Tulips in July will most likely look crappy, because they open very fast and wilt very fast.

If you *are* set on DIY'ing, you will probably need to wire them.  Also, there's a trick to help stop the wilting/over opening... you can slit the stem up near the head (maybe about a about 1/4 inch long, just below where the head meets the stem.  (kind of hard to explain, but let me know if you want more details.

I agree with the previous posters that said they'd advise against tulips in summer. Tulips are a late winter/early spring flower. the ones that are even hanging around now are not the best tulips for design work. You may want to consider another bloom, and if you don't be aware that they will not perform as well as they do while in season. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Like the other ladies said, you could always get them but since they are not in season they will cost more.

However I don't agree that you should not use them, it just depends on how you are planning on using them. Perhaps I wouldn't do an all tulip bouquet as they will droop, but if they are mixed with other flowers they will do better as the other flowers will hold them up. And as for centerpieces it again depends on how your doing them, it may not be the best to do a tall arrangement with a few flowers, this will definitely droop. But doing a shoter, more condensed arrangement might be better.
