Tall centerpieces?

Hi everyone!

I just found this board and am hoping maybe you can help!

We are having a July 2011 wedding. I really love tall centerpieces but budget wise we are cutting it close with them. I decided we would do half short and half tall but I'm wondering if you ladies have any ideas for tall centerpieces that could be budget friendly? Like if you have ideas on flowers or where to get vases or DIY them? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Search for KRHagen's bio.  She DIYd her gorgeous centerpieces and I think she did tall and short.

We are having tall centerpieces on half the tables, and short on the other half.

I bought very tall (3-4 foot) branches for 90% off when a local Michael's closed. Because you live in a temperate climate zone, if you have neighbors, friends or family that trim trees in their yards, ask them to save the branches for you, or pick them up when your local compost is put out for pickup. These can be sprayed any color in your wedding theme, or left natural. You can affix silk blooms to them, or hang ribbons with crystals.

The recommendation above is a good one, that site has about the cheapest vases around. Also check Walmart, Target, your local dollar stores, Salvation Army and Goodwill stores for discounted vases. They don't have to match, eclectic is good, LOL.

I'll be ordering my flowers from costco.com, they have wedding packages as well as bulk flowers. Also check your local Costco (or Sam's Club), their floral kiosks have great deals. I'm putting fresh white roses or calla lillies lower in the vases to fill them out.

    Hope that helps.

my sister had DIY tall centerpieces... she found tall probably 3 ft cylinder vases, filled them with water then put very stemmed flowers into them with curly williow and floating candles. i think she spent about 25-20 bucks per center piece which seems pricey but she sold all the vases afterwards and it brought the price down to close to 5 bucks a piece. they were gorgeous.
