Honeymoons Anyone?

I am literally at a loss as to where we should go for our Honeymoon. We have a fairly decent budget. Mind you not overly huge. We have both been to Mexico, and the Carribean, which we are not opposed to visiting again. Anyone have Honeymoons booked? Or already had one? I guess I am looking for what good/bad experiences you ladies have had, and any location suggestions, resorts etc.

We're going to Kauai.  FI has never been to Hawaii.  We were not opposed to the Carribean but with a September wedding, we were worried about hurricanes.  Luckily, the time share trade-in we're using had a Hawaii resort pop up!  Yay!  :)

It was always our dream to go to Hawaii so we went to Maui and it was heaven.  I have pictures and a recap in my married bio.

Steph, I just checked out your Maui trip and you did a great job breakin' it all down!  We did a lot of the same stuff.  Did you eat at Cheeseburgers in Paradise?  Yum yum!

We went to NYC and loved it...can't wait to go back!  I broke mine down in my bio as well, somewhat.

We will be going to CA for ours this weekend...whoo hoo! Flying into San Fran on Saturday, renting a car and driving down the PCH for 5 days. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. Planning on visiting Napa, Big Sir, Half Moon Bay, San Obispo, LA, Hollywood...so much to see!
I went to Kauai for my brothers wedding in 2001 - I've never seen something so amazing as HI! Smells just like a candle, fruit is AMAZING, and the people are so great. Eat locally when you can it's much cheaper than imported items (if I remember correctly) Beaches are great and a luau is a must!

We are going to St. Lucia!

We are leaving on the Monday after the wedding (way cheaper than leaving Sunday) and coming back on Saturday.

We found what seems like a pretty good, all inclusive resort for a reasonable price. The activities aren't included, so we will have to pay for those. All in all, plane tickets, hotel, extras, I would say we will pay about 5-6k. What we have booked so far, room and flight, was a little over 4k.

We are going on a cruise to cozumel, montego bay and grand cayman. We choose an interior room because it was $900 cheaper than a balcony and we would rather spend that money on drinks and excursions....total was $1600.00

Not where we went but not Carribean or Mexico: What about a Mediterranean cruise or island hopping in the Greek Isles?  Santorini is one of my dream destinations.

Or if you want lots of beach, Fiji?

We are going to Honolulu. FI has never been, but this is my 4th trip to Hawaii, and I am really excited. I ran the Honolulu Marathon in 2004, and I am really looking forward to going back to that island.

Linz, that sounds like a great HM!  I actually wanted to get married in San Francisco and then stay there a few days before we went to Maui.  But a DW was not in the in-law's plans, plus Ben has already done the whole Napa thing.

Joanne, no, unfortunately we didn't eat at many local places and I regret that.  Ben was all about eating at the resort.  Our HM is going to be in the Fall Knot magazine.  I think it comes out next month.

My honeymoon envy is for Cheryl.  I think they went to either Belize or Bora Bora and it looked wonderful!

We are going to Maui as well!  And we leave in 2 months.  We are staying at a private villa next to the Ritz, so we have access to all of their amenities.  I can't wait!

Stephie--It was Bora Bora. It was so amazing. I still think about it all the time and am planning on saving up for a return trip (in about 10 years!). If you have the funds and can find a good deal, then I say Bora Bora is a MUST.

I think you should choose a destination based on what you want out of your honeymoon. We didn't want to do a lot of excursions or sightseeing. Our main goal was to be lazy and lay around on the beach. We went to a part of Mexico we had already been to and never left the resort except to scuba dive. We stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach and it was perfect. If you have any questions about the resort just let me know. Good luck. Deciding on the honeymoon was one of our toughest decisions.

My dream trip would be Cheryl's... Bora Bora looks amazing!

We don't want to do much of anything, so we're going to Excellence Playa Mujeres in Mexico for 7 nights to enjoy the beach and be lazy.

Bridget... I have actually looked at the Secrets Wild Orchid.... Its on our minds... and cfibelkorn, I have been on that cruise. Lots of fun. We did the ziplines in Jamaica, tons of fun, my mom and dad have done the zipline excursion several times and the workers seem to know them and remember FI's mom wants us to go to Hawii, and my Aunt raves about Costa Rica. Its just all up in the air. Tough decision. Thanks for everyone's input =).

We went to Greece (Athens and Santorini) and it was amazing!  We just flew in instead of doing a cruise.  It was nice because we were on our time.  We used a travel agency called TrueGreece (truegreece.com) and they were absolutely PHENOMENAL!
