Fake Flowers

Does anyone know how fake flowers turn out in pics, particularly for bridal bouquets and bridesmaids bouquets. I've gone to Michael's and found all the flowers I can use for both bouquets and simple decor (cost approx $250 total), but is this a better option than just getting real flowers? (Cost-wise and look-wise)?

Honestly, unless you have had backgroud in floral design, you will not get the same look as a florist would when using fake flowers from Michael's.  I didn't mean for that to sound so harsh, but the quality of silk flowers form Michael's is pretty low and a florist has the experience and know-how to arrange flowers correctly to achieve the best look possible.

Cost-wise, yes you are saving a great deal of money by DIYing.

As far as quality of pictures...I really don't know how they would show up, such as if you could tell it was fake or not, but if you have a decent photographer your pictures will turn out great regardless.

Edit:  I guess I get so passionate about people DIYing things themselves is that I used to work in a florist and most florists are very small businesses with only a few workers, and with the economy the way it is flowers are looked at as a luxury so many of the shops have to close or fire the little staff that they have.  I understand people's thinking that spending a lot on flowers that will just die is ridiculous, but spending money at small business really does boost the economy and will help everyone out in the long run.

I will now get down off my soap box...thank you :)

  • Have you considered buying fresh flowers in bulk and then DIY'ing?  You have to do it a day or two in advance, so time is an issue... but it still saves a ton.

    I used the site fiftyflowers.com and flowersandfreshness.com

You could also always use a florist for the bouquets and then do fake for centerpieces if you are concerned about pictures.

  • I just got my fake flowers from Michael's for my bouquet and my bridesmaids. I got a variety, and am going to add some blingy type things in there, too. I bought some beads, some silver twisty stick things, etc. I got all my stuff for under $100, they were having a buy one get one free, how could I not??? I have only put one together, and I have made many people see it, just to tell me if they think it looks fake. Everyone tells me they look beautiful, and can't tell. But maybe they are just being nice haha. I like them...and that's really all that matters! When you think back to all the weddings you've been to, have you ever really studied the flowers? I personally can't even remember what any of them looked like...maybe I am just not observant.

I am going to have fresh flowers in my centerpieces though...since everyone will be seeing those much longer than any of the bouquets.
