DIY - Candy Bar

So with our budget getting larger, I'm trying to maintain some money by doing our candy bar ourselves.  Found some very lovely vases thanks to another KNOTTIE.  I'm needing some help decorating them.  Our colors are cornflower (blue) and silver.  Please help with ideas and possible where to purchase the materials to pull this off without looking terrible.

You also might check the classified thread at the top of this page and the classified board.  Or some of the month boards for weddings that have recently happened (December, November, and October 2011).  I know a couple of girls here bought wooden letters that spelled out "sweet love" and had that on the candy bar table.  I think they got passed around a bit.

I also agree that simple is probably best.

PS, if you're trying to maintain a budget, why are you doing a candy bar at all?  I know you can get stuff wholesale, but even then, bulk candy can really add up.  When we started looking at things to cut back on or eliminate completely, favors were the first thing to go.  I guarantee you no one noticed.

I think that she's saying that, while her budget got a little bigger, she wants to keep some of the money to do other things with.  She wants to DIY the candy stuff.

I agree that the candy can be pricy but maybe start looking for stuff on sale.

This. Wait until after big holidays to buy stuff (easter, Valentines day). Last year after Valentine's day, my local Albertson's had a FREE cart full of Valentines, nerds, blow pops, hershey's kisses, etc. I stocked up all I could and took it to my friend who is a teacher. During this time (Easter/4th of July) you may be able to score some on sale blue colored bowls as well. <div>
Also agree with classifieds/looking around here for used jars (they come up ALL the time). Hobby Lobby also has their glass sale about once every three weeks. You can also print out their 40% off coupon from their website to use anytime (one per day). You could go buy paper letters (love is sweet/sweet love, etc.) and paint them yourself. 

Some things I have seen go fastest at a candy bar are trail mix, covered pretzels, and chocolate covered popcorn. Sprouts will regularly have sales and you can buy in bulk. For the holidays, I recently got chocolate covered caramel popcorn for $2.99 a pound at sprouts. Just another idea. Other wholesalers for Candy: Costco and Sam's. </div><div>

That's when I got all my red and pink candy (hugs) for our little bags. 

I did buy some of the personalized Kisses from TK.  I know you can do them yourself, but I couldn't really take the time since we had less than six months, I was still teaching (and traveling), and I had to move.  I did get them when they were on sale though.
