Too prom?

We're on a budget, and I'm thinking that bouquets are expensive.

What if I gave my girls really nice corsages to wear instead?
Does it scream prom, or subtle and sweet?
Opinions please!

Here are some alternatives I've found. IMO, it looks better when the BMs carry something. I'm using paper flowers, it's going to cost around $300 for my bouquet, a toss bouquet, and my BMs bouquets. It would be cheaper if I DIYed them, but I'm ordering them off Etsy.

I've seen some great paper flowers looking around random bios and websites.  In addition, I'm on a budget too and we are doing silk flowers.  I ended up spending about $75 for all the flowers (roses, hydrangeas, peonies, and cymbium orchids).

I don't like the idea of corsages, because I also think the BM look better carrying something.

If you prefer real flowers, they could carry one single rose or calla lilly, maybe with a nice trailing ribbon. Inexpensive, but elegant.

    yes it looks too "prom"

If on a budget and you don't care what flowers they wear how about a do it yourself idea and go to the flower shop or supermarkt the morning off-or day before and buy one of those $5.99 bouquets and switch it around and add some ribbon or fabric and make them into a bouquet.

Look for a local florist that will give you a discount if you pick flowers that are handy. My friend paid $300 for all her flowers and arrangements just because she wasn't picky and got what was growing in her greenhouse at the time. (The lady knew what colors she wanted, etc. So it wasn't really luck of the draw.) I will be going with her also, except only buying the flowers in bulk, and my sister making our arrangements. :)

how about just a pair of blooms well tied theme blooms...  with long stems, nice ribbon wrap... agree with the too prom...
I also think paper is too cute by half for a wedding... a shower maybe but not a wedding....

Thanks girls! I was inspired by the OBB post and will probably be going in a different direction!

I've read about brides using somethnig besides flowers; have them carry a clutch or a cluster of something else (I think I have seen buttons?), or something with the time of yaer or a sentimental value to you......I am sure more creative people could come up with better ideas.  At any rate, it doesn't need to be flowers.  But a single bloom or a small one would work very well.

PS at least talk to aflorist; we're getting married in a very rural area and the bouquets (excluding the altar flowers and centerpieces) are only like $130.

I do know that when I was a BM it was nice to have a bouquette to cary - it gave me something to do with my hands while I stood in front of 100 people for 30 minutes.

I am not not doing flowers for my bm because of money, but i am having a candle lite ceremony so they will be carrying candle holders with a candle in it, you could to something like thst. There candle holders i think were like $5 at garden ridge. Get creative with it it does not have to be flowers :)

I also don't like the idea of corsages. I've seen pictures of bridesmaids carrying pomanders, and I think they look lovely. Here is a picture for reference:
