wrap the staircase or don't...

I will be walking down a staircase, and we are getting married at the base. My florist was talking about wrapping the banisters. I'm not sure if this would look nice or be sort of cheesy/gawdy. What do you guys think. Here's her description (try to see beyond all the freaking adjectives)...maybe I'm just having a hard time picturing it...since there is no picture.

The staircase soften with ivory sheer organza with delicate ivy and italian ruscus greenery woven through with clusters of ivory roses and a knot bow with streamers at the gathers

It sounds pretty, like it would have a ...."dreamy' quality to it.  Sounds like it would look very traditional and "wedding like" if the furnishings and decor surrounding the staircase are also traditional.

If the rest of the furnishings and decor are more chic or modern, then not such a great match.  In that case, something simple, bold, and contemporary would be a better match.

I think it would look really nice if done right. That staircase is beautiful!

It would great IF done right. But I think it looks great as is, so I wouldn't do it because there is the possibility it WON'T be done right.
