What time of year are we talking about here? Is there a place where you can pick flowers? What do grocery store bouquets cost in DC?

Cheap silk flowers are going to look cheap, but there are definitely places where you can get real flowers inexpensively.

Agree with pp.  Carry single roses or gerbera daisies.  Silk flowers are cheap looking unless you pay the money to have fine quality- those cost more than real flowers.  And to those who say you can't tell in pics, yes you can!

I was actually at Michael's today looking at silk flowers and they actually don't look as bad as I thought.  Some looked better than others so just pick the ones that can pass for a more realistic look.  I have fresh flowers ordered but the bill is ridiculous and I'm still debating keeping them.  I vote yes on silk flowers if the budget is tight.  Cuz really, it's a wedding, it's about you and your man, not about flowers.

Check your local grocery stores. If you or a family member or friend has a Costco membership, they sell lovely fresh flowers for $16 a bunch, which is 2 dozen roses or mixed bouquets. Never been to Sam's Club, but they are probably similar.
Even with discounts, I've rarely seen silk flowers cost less than fresh. You can carry a small bouquet, your daughters can carry a single rose, and you can put together small centerpieces of fresh flowers in bud vases.

    Good luck.

I did silk and bought them from afloral.com. I found that craft store flowers were pricey. I am happy with how my flowers turned out.

Check out local flower farms - a lot of places will let you pick your own for a small price!

I originally thought of doing silk flowers but after looking at pictures and going into the actual stores, I think they do look tacky and you can certainly tell they aren't real.  Try checking out grocery stores like Giant.  They even offer wedding packages that start pretty inexpensive, or you could just buy them yourself and wrap them in a ribbon that matches your wedding color.  Also, if you have an Aldi grocery store near you and you aren't picky about the type of flower or color of flower, they offer pretty clusters for $4!  You could easily get enough flowers to make what you want for under $20!

Silk flowers are NMS but I wouldn't call them tacky.  Also, depending on your location, they may not be allowed.  Our church doesn't allow artificial flowers to be used.

Our local Fresh Market always has nice flower bunches, you could get enough to do 3 or 4 nice size bouquets for about $20.

I bought one bunch last week for $7 that had more than enough stems for a bridal bouquet and groom's bout.

Silk flowers can look tacky, but if you get "real touch" flowers, they're hard to distinguish from the real thing.  They're priced accordingly, though.  Try going to Wegman's, I've heard great things about their bouquets.

My sis used real flowers from Sam's Club (they are about the same with Costco) and for about 4 dozen, I she only paid about $80, my mom then made the bouquets, which were gorgeous. My dad is gettin married tomorrow, and they are using all silk flowers, and most look real, but they cost about the same as real. Their whole reasoning was so they could go ahead and make bouquets, centerpieces, and decorations a few weeks before. At the end of the day, its all about you and your FI, and if you can't comfortably afford real or seemingly real flowers, don't stress it! No one is going to remember the flowers!

Ive been to multiple weddings with silk flowers and they can look very real and pretty. I think it depends on how well they are put together.

I second the grocery stores!  I have gotten flowers at both Kroger and Trader Joe's that have lasted at least 5 days (longer if I don't forget to change the water)!

It's probably better and easier to go with cheap but real flowers - single rose as pp mentioned, carnations with baby breath.
