Choosing a florist

I have a couple of questions about choosing a florist:
First of all, how far in advance do I need to reserve a florist? Also, do most florists typically only do one wedding per day?

I just got off the phone with a florist that my cousin recommended and I wanted to book a consulation this week even though my wedding is next June because I am moving out of the state next Thursday. She told me first of all that they recommend doing a consultation only 6 months in advance, but then realized that they were doing flowers for the owner's friend on my date and couldn't do it anyways. I thought that was odd that they were only taking one wedding for that date.

It depends on the florist. My wedding is also next June and some places have told me to come back in November and some have told me that now works fine. I have a couple of appointments at the end of the month with florists. So, I'd suggest calling around and seeing what other places say.

I'm not sure how many they can do in a day, but keep in mind that they have to be there early to set up, as well as take down any decorations that belong to them after the ceremony/reception.

Some people on your local board might have some suggestions for good florists.

Typically florists will book weddings whenever a bride wants to book one; however, they want do a consultation until 4-6 months out from the wedding day.  You need to have all your other vendors in order, guest count some what set, and colors solidified before speaking with a florist.

As far as the number of weddings they do in a day.  This comes down to the size florist you are going with, the size of the wedding they may already have booked for that day, and amount of staff available to work.  I used to work at a florist and if weddings were an average size we would do 2-3 a day, if they were just personal flowers and one may have centerpieces as well, then we would do 3-5 a day, if it was a huge extravagant wedding we would only do the one.

Thank you for sharing. I've gotten different reactions from each florist I've called, but I have two appointments set up before I leave next week so I can get our date reserved.

I know some florists will only book one per day so they can be present on that day for delivery/questions, but as long as the person you meet and consult wtih is the same person who will be doing your arrangements, then you should be fine!

get your florist booked. That doesn't mean you have to plan your flowers tho.  I like to see my brides 4-6mo out to start the planning.
