Fall-time Peony Alternative?

Hi ladies,

I'm meeting with another florist on Saturday (my first option was WAY overpriced) and because of this florist's affordability, I'm considering adding in some flowers that mimic the look of peonies.

I know that quite a few varieties of roses do a good job of this--such as Cabbage Rose, Juliet Rose and English Rose--but, I'm not sure of their availability/affordability for the fall-time.  Also, I fell in love with ranunculus, but soon found out it's not typically a fall-time flower.

Does anyone have any experiences with these flowers, or others that are similar in look to peonies, for the fall-time.  Or, do you have suggestions on what flowers I ought to consider for that same overall look?

Thanks! :)

Definitely ask about English garden roses (also called David Austin roses) and cabbage roses.  I also just discovered peony tulips: http://www.fiftyflowers.com/product/Peony-Tulips-Bicolor-Salmon-Pink_255.htm

My florist preferred not to work with garden roses and said they'd be about the same price as peonies.  She also said garden roses are very delicate and sensitive to heat (I got married in the Florida Keys).

Don't rule out real peonies completely.  Your florist may be able to import them. I think during the Fall/Winter florists typically can order them from New Zealand peony farms.  I had peonies in November and the price was not too bad.

You really can get most flowers year round if you're willing to pay the price.
