Am I Being Ripped Off?

My florist just called and I feel like I am being ripped off.  At the end of our ceremony aisles we want to do carnation balls.  Carnations are a cheaper flower and we wanted fairly small balls.  When I told my florist about this she was very negative about it so I shouldn't be surprised about the outrageous price.  It's $64 for one ball.  Am I crazy or is that a high price?

No.  My florist was flipping though a Bridal flowers mag that I brought and commented that something like this isn't worth it considering the number of stems that you need and the labor that goes into it.

It's the labor that makes it expensive.  If you want them look into DIYing them.  You can make them from artificial carnations.  Just do a Google search and you should be able to find the directions.

I am making my own as I have been quoted over $600 for all my wedding flowers for all carnations. I have found sams club and costco are very cheap and I can DIY for more then half the price!

Well, that is definitely disappointing.  Thanks for your input though!
See we were going to use these at the end of the aisles, then use them inside on the tables at the reception.  Any ideas on something else I could do?  I could do them myself but that will just stress me out more so I really don't want to make them.

  I don't doubt that those are very labor-intensive, and that may be a good price...but I had a florist tell me directly that she gives very high quotes for arrangements that she doesn't want to have to make. So, it does happen.

I would look into the DIY version...I haven't met with a florist yet, but that's one thing i'm nervous about is the price of flowers at the reception...so candles will be my best friend!!

If you are talking fresh flowers, the pomander balls take a LOT of blooms to cover the foam inside.  It could easily take 3-4 dozen carnations for one ball. 

You might consider using regular pew clip cages, or tiny bucket-like containers that clip onto pew clips, and are easily removed if you want them to be multi purpose, like for a centerpiece.  They take only a few minutes each to make and use way less flowers.  You can get a similar look with a sort of half pomander.
