Getting flower petals

As far as I can tell, the best way to get flower petals it to just rip them off the flower yourself. Am I correct? If not feel free to tell me a better (and by better I mean cheaper) option.
So assuming I am correct here, what are some options for this? Will places give you old flowers for free or discounted? Is there perhaps some tacky place like 7-eleven that seels horribly discounted roses?
Let me know :3

I guess it depends on what you consider "horribly discounted" or "discounted". It also depends on how many petals you need. One rose would probably give you 10-20 good sized petals, depending on the rose style/type.

Do you have a Costco or Sam's Club membership? Around here 2 dozen roses at Costco are $17 regardless of the time of year. Not sure if you consider that discounted or not. They don't sell in smaller quantities.

I probably would not consider "old flowers" since they would be brown around the edges.

I peeked at your bio and it appears your wedding is in June. That is prime "rose season" in most parts of the US, surely you have a friend or family member with rose bushes in their garden? However, if you are looking for a specific color, your best bet is a grocery store, Sam's or Costco, or a local florist that you can find that sells roses for about $1 each.

Awesome! 2 dozen for 17$ is a pretty great deal. I'll be sure to check that out, thanks!

You can get about 25 cups of freeze dried petals for around 40 I believe. But I have no idea the cost or how many petals are on each flower or how many cups that would fill

Just found a site explaining Number of Petals PER CUP will vary depending on the variety. Petals per cup will range between 25 large size petals to 150 petite size petals. The "average" number of petals per cup is 35-40.

  • I think getting flower petals is not that difficult but getting the consistency of the petals will be challenging for you. Why not buy them and save the time working on the other things for your wedding. Wedding plannign can be time consuming and tiring as well so I think it would ease you in the long run to buy them. Rose, delphinium, and most real petals bruise especially freeze dried ones. I'd go with real bougainvillea petals petals that don't turn brown when bruised and are not that expensive.

You can try real bougainvillea petals as these are very beautiful, resistant to fading, don't stain and are biodegradable. Just let me know and I'll let you know you can get some. They come in various colours as well.
