Flowers

bridesmaids and single flowers?

Hey y'all, I'm turning to your expertise because I can't picture this at all. My mom's an ex-florist, and one of the first things she said (and one she keeps repeating) with regards to flowers is "Wouldn't it be so classy if your bridesmaids just carried a single flower each?"

I have no idea. I've never seen this, and it's hard for me to picture. The flowers I love best are calla lillies, though I'm open to others, and my wedding colors are light purple and eggplant. The BMs will probably be wearing the lighter color with the darker sash, knee-length dresses.

Has anyone seen this? Are there any opinions on doing single flowers instead of bouquets? Are there flowers that work better or worse for this?

Has anyone seen this? Yes.  It works beautifully.

Are there any opinions on doing single flowers instead of bouquets?   Yes.  You need a strong stemmed flower.

Are there flowers that work better or worse for this?   We used roses but calla lilies or gerberas would also work.

Awesome, thank you! I'll look for a strong-stemmed flower then.

Yes, it's done sometimes.  It can look very elegant and simple, and is also very practical and economical if you are DIYing the flowers.  I've only seen it with long stemmed roses, usually with some decorative ribbon around it.

If you think one stem is too bare, you could do 3 instead, with a simple hand tied ribbon.  Roses or callas would be an excellent choice for this option.

My girls will be carrying 3 long stemmed mango callas. Its classy and a great way to cut down on the budget.
Plus- your girls arms wont get tired from having to hold up a big heavy mound of flowers!

I actually carried three or four callas in the last wedding I was in and it looked great in the photos.

Does anyone have a picture of what a small bouquet of roses for the bridesmaids would look like with a ribbon tied around them?

Cala lillies would be a great flower to have just one or two carried by each BM.  It looks really awesome, especially with larger flowers like sunflowers, cabbage roses, or calas.

Here's a pic for an example.  If you Bing it, you'll find tons of others too.
