Hydrangea help

I want to use a lot of hydrangeas in the bouquests for my July wedding.  When I spoke to the florist about it, she didn't seem to think it was a big deal but said that they would need to stay hydrated when we were using them (so basically to put them in water while we are in the limo, at the reception).  My mom, however, is concerned that they will wilt and also that if we keep them in water, the water will get all over our dresses.  I suggested wiping them off with a towel when we remove them from water, but she didn't seem to think that this would work.  Basically I just want to know if anyone has seen/used hydrangeas in the heat...if you had any problems with them...and how to keep from getting water on your dresses....

I was in a wedding where the groomsmen wore hydrangeas in their boutonnieres (god that was hard to spell) and they definitely started going limp and floppy halfway through the day.  I guess that's because they couldn't soak them in water being attached to their lapels and all.

I've never seen what happens when they're in bouquets and have the chance to soak.....

I went to a wedding last July where the brides flowers were hydrangeas and were wilted before the ceremony. They had kept them in water as much as possible, but once the bridal party went outside for pictures they all wilted and never came back. I would check with your florist and make sure she has done a July wedding with hydrangeas.....and ask to see pictures!

I am using them in my bridesmaids bouquets in August. I asked how well they would hold up and my florist didn't seem to be too concerned. I did meet with another florist who was really trying to talk me out of using them, but the florist I went with seemed like she knows what she's doing and her work looks really nice so I trust her judgement. I've also read a lot of things online from brides who used them and said they lasted all day....so I guess it depends on who you talk to and how well they know what they're doing to make sure the flowers last all day.

I'm not a ton of help but I will say that all of my bouquets (roses) were given to us with wet stems/ribbon as they had been in water.  I wasn't expecting this but after my initial surprise, it was fine and none of our dresses got wet.

I used hydgrangea in my centerpieces and they still looked great the next day.  However, this was an indoor November wedding.

I had hydrangeas (and other easily wilting flowers) for my outdoor Memorial weekend wedding in FL (it was about 85 degrees with 95% humidity) and my flowers stayed beautiful all day.  They stayed in water until I started taking pictures about an hour before the ceremony and they didn't go back into water until about 7 hours later.  Your florist should know what they are taking about.  Ask for a mockup and test it out.

There will be some hydrangea in my bouquet only (one of my girls has tulips) and both types of flowers are supposed to be in water until just before the ceremony.  I was told then they should be ok and we should have no problems.

I had hydrangeas in my bouquet (late June wedding). We kept my bouquet (and the girls' bouquets) in water until I got out of the limo. We just wiped them off with a towel and it was fine. The hydrangeas held up well. Only I would have noticed that they were limp during post-ceremony pics. The wilting wasn't obvious until we got to the reception, and by then no one cared any more what my bouquet looked like.

I was in a wedding where they did get kinda limp by the reception. It was in FL in march so it was warmer weather. I wanted hydrangeas for my BM's but decided against it for this reason (although it seems to work for other girls!). I will have hydrangeas in my centerpieces instead.
