Day-Of Coordinator

Hey Ladies!

I am considering having a day-of coordinator, since my venue is completely DIY, and I don't want my family to have to decorate the ceremony and reception spaces for me.  I wanted to hear who you all used as your DOC and what she charged.  I'm trying to figure out if I can fit the extra expense in my budget!

Re: Day-Of Coordinator

  • I had a girl named Christi hired to help me out with mine, and she was $650 for the day. Unfortunately she is pregnant and due about 2 weeks after my wedding so she had to cancel on me and refunded my money back in September.

If you search Wedding Creations by Christi, she may pop up...

I know many people have commented on Meredith and how wonderful she is.

I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

  • If you have a DIY venue then it's almost totally necessary to hire a DOC!

There are a lot of people starting out in the industry, and they'd probably fit better into your budget than most of the bigger names.

I don't have a rec, just wanted to offer the advice.  :)
  • Maybe one of the recently married girls on here would do it for you for super cheap lol

My coordinator- Kathleen with Celestial Events is awesome! She has helped me so much with finding vendors within my budget that she has saved me money versus what I would have been able to find on my own (more than making up her fee).
Here is her web page (under construction) http://www.celestial-events.com/Our_Services.html   and her facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Celestial-Events/185101724854974 She is one of those who is relatively "new" (compared to more established DOCs) but has lots of experience.

ETA: On a decor scale- this is what she is doing for me day-of: setting up and tear down. I am not hiring a florist, so she will be setting up the venue completely by herself (with her assitants) and executing my vision. My wedding is at a restaurant but their decor is, well, lacking to say the least.

  • I am using Jen with Altar Ego Events... and I love her, but since I just hired her I haven't used her much yet... but I will!
  • I used Meredith Commender with Significant Events of Texas for full-service coordination and she was awesome!

  • Thanks so much!  I will definitely look into all of the recommendations.  I'm now thinking a DOC is a must-have!

  • I used Each and Every Detail (Candace, specifically) and really was happy with my experience. The service I chose was day-of, but they include the last 2 months in the pricing which is $1500. They took the time to understand my vision so that they could execute the set up and coordinate all of my vendors so that I had nothing to worry about the day-of. I would recommend meeting with 2 or 3 DOC's so that you can really evaluate the way you click with them since that relationship is very important.

If you have a DIY venue, like I have, at least a DOC is a must. I met with three and I will tell you their prices were 650, 850, and 1150... so the prices really do vary.
  • So many people LOVE Meredith with Significant Events, but she wasn't available on my date, and I used her associate, Emily Mead. Unfortunately, she didn't come close being worth what we paid for her.
  • I will chime on on Meredith with Significant Events.  We ended up not hiring a coordinator, but I did speak with her when I was considering it and she was wonderful to talk to and easy to communicate with.  I felt as positively about her when I got off the phone with her as I did when I hung up with Melody (DJ) the first time I talked to her.

I agree with bsn -- it really is pretty much essential to have a DOC if your wedding is going to be completely DIY.  There are certainly some people out there new to the wedding industry (my friend from high school actually just started up her own coordinating business and offered to do mine for $800, I believe) who will do DOC services at a discount rate.  And PP are right -- if you book a DOC early on in the process, they will save you FAR more money than you spend on them.  Unfortunately, I had already booked the majority of my vendors before considering a DOC and now, 4 months out, I REALLY wish I had one.
