Starting the dance

To start our dance, we're of course doing our first dance as a couple and the father daughter dance. Then we are going to have the wedding party grab someone to dance with to try to get more people to the dance floo. Any ideas on what song to use?

Re: Starting the dance

  • Maybe something most would know - yup, a typical wedding song..."Oh What a Night"  It is an easy beat, old & young usually dance to it :)
  • After the parent dance(s), I would just have the Dj announce the dance floor is open and play an upbeat, popular song that most people know to get them dancing. If you and your groom get out on the floor, it entices other to do that also. I would not force WP members to dance. For one, they may not like dancing and be uncomfortable. For two, if they did not bring a date, it would be incredibly awkward to have them just grab somebody and dance with them. I'd re-think this idea.

<div>Thanks for the suggestion. I've been debating this because I am worried that if nobody is up there, even people that like to dance won't want to go up and be the first ones there. Most of our wedding party is actually married so they have someone, but you're right, I don't want to force them to dance. Maybe I will just strongly encourage my WP to get up and dance with us, because I know at least some who will! :)</div>
  • Yup, assuming you're having a DJ, he or she can just say something along the lines of "At this time, Didi and Mr. Didi would like to invite all of their guests to join them on the dance floor." Starting out with popular oldies tunes helps, as it's stuff that both younger and older people would know.
