Not sure about first dance song

My FI has always wanted Dream River by The Mavericks to be the first dance at his wedding. He's very into music so I wanted him to pick the song. But I just don't get it. Can anyone explain the song to me? It doesn't seem like a first dance kind of song.

I would try googling it or going to the bands website to see if you can find out the significance of it.

The lyrics ar nice.  Its a love song.

Sounds like a beautiful love song to me! But it would be best if you could find a song that you both love, so maybe talk it through and try and find another one before you make any decisions!
