Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

No DJ?

We are considering not using a dj for our wedding or reception. We have talked about using a stereo system at the location and our wedding and having a member of the wedding party or a specific guest take over with cds we have made. At a recent wedding I attended, the "dj" was a guy with a laptop and itunes. What are some suggestions??

Yep, people do that all the time now, it is definitely becoming more common.

If you have access to speakers you can use those or most music places will rent them to you for $100-$200 including microphones.

It's probably easiest to do it in iTunes and make a few playlists - casual background music for cocktail hour, then dance music or whatever you want for dancing time - different playlists to suit different parts of your reception.  I'd suggest iTunes over CDs because it's easier to organize and also to change if people have requests or you change your mind about what you want to play at a certain time.

If you google "wedding reception playlist" there are some sites that have suggestions of good reception music to keep the party going.
