Check!

I booked my 'caterer' this weekend.  We're on a limited budget and so I've had to be creative.  Turns out Carinos caters and they have amazing prices.  So, my FMIL and I went to a tasting this weekend and signed the contract.  Very exciting.  Love the food, love the price.  :)

  • LOVE me some Melody! She was the rockstar of our wedding!
  • Congrats on the checks!  We had some friends use Carinos and they loved it!

How soon did everyone start meeting with their DJ?  We booked Melody back over the last summer and haven't met with her.  We're getting married 5/25.  I don't know what we want at all yet in terms of music because I'm lazy and FI is super picky.

  • I had complete faith in Melody, so she was one vendor I never worried about. We met with her for the first time about two weeks before the wedding. We spent a solid two-three hours with her (she did our ceremony music as well) and went through the day step by step. Then she turned around a very detailed document to us, one for the ceremony and one for the reception. SO easy! I would just suggest getting the actual date set-up if your schedules are crazy!
  • Amy, tomorrow we will be 1 month, 1 day away and this is the first (and only) sit down with her we are planning. I've met her at the bridal shows so she and I have a good connection already.

She found out work has me in LA the week of the wedding and already told me not to stress and that she'll have a timeline together for me tomorrow to follow for the ceremony.

  • Amy, we didn't start anything until about a month or two out.  I think we actually didn't have our "final meeting" until the weekend before the wedding, when I sat down with Cratin and Meredith and plotted everything out.

  • I'm worried about the DJ....my FI has a co-worker who is doing our catering and cakes for almost nothing, and they suggested a DJ they have used in the past. My FI already called him to want to book, being 6 months out I think that's a bit far and I want to definately have a sample understanding of their style! The price he's quoted us is $500...no clue if that's normal or not.

If anyone has information on Melody can you pass it along?

  • Here's the link to Melody's website.  $500 is a good deal and less than what Melody charges, but I think she's considered to be one of the more affordable 'good' djs.  She seems very professional AND fun on the phone and I think you'll be hard pressed to find a bad review of her on here.  Good luck!

Amy -- ditto pretty much what the others said. I met my DJ when I booked him (a year before the wedding) and then didn't talk to him until the week of the wedding. We had our "final meeting" over the phone on the Monday before the wedding.

KHollyTX - congrats on the checks! No need to put caterer in quotes ... both the caterer of my reception and RD were restaurants, and the food was delicious! The prices were so much better than the catering companies I contacted, it wasn't even a question to me. Even better -- on our anniversary or other special occasions, we can go back and have our "wedding food" as I like to call it!

Roseofdeborah -- have you googled to see if there are any reviews of the DJ that was suggested to you on the web? Even on this board? The DJ I used was $1200 and I couldn't find any reviews of him online prior to the wedding -- the only reason I had any trust in him was because he was recommended by someone I trusted (my wedding planner).

  • Melody's prices are really hard to beat.  I liked her, but neither she nor her partner Lori were available on my wedding day, so we couldn't use her.

Whew, I feel less behind now.  Between my laziness and FI's pickiness, we really can't agree on much in the music dept.  I just keep putting it off.  I also know I'll change my mind a million times if I've given a chance to do so, so there's that.

I was also really impressed talking to Melody on the phone.  She seemed very professional, easy to talk with, and in our first conversation she made it known that they are there to do anything that needs to be done on your wedding day whenever possible.  I thought that was awesome and it sounds like she really sticks by this.  She is running about $700 for us with ceremony + reception (so it's a little more than the $500 DJ you mentioned) buuuuut peace of mind for $200 isn't too shabby.  Some DJs are great at playing music, but it can be hard to find a great DJ who knows how to read a crowd and keep the party going.  I hear that Melody and her group are GREAT with that.  I feel like it takes a lot of pressure of me trying to figure out what to play and when.  HTH!

  • And not only does Melody do a GREAT job of keeping the party going, she is the queen of coordination and making sure your ceremony and/or reception flow well and everyone is where they need to be foe the important parts of the night. She BLEW my DOC out of the water...and she's a DJ...
