Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

outdoor music.. possible without all that bulky dj equiptment??

We are having an outdoor ceremony and A friend is singing while I come down the isle.... Does anyone know what I need for that? (besides a mic, device to play the cd, and speaker?)

We are trying to cut the cost down of the dear-down set-up fee for him to do from the outdoor ceremony to the indoor reception! Thanks for any tips ladies!

You will want more than 1 speaker.  Something to consider is the Fender passport system.  It is a 2-speaker plus sound board package that is great for events where traditional sound systems aren't available.  Why 2 speakers?  Because with 1 speaker, the singer's voice can sound too directionally pointed and if your guests are sitting directly in front of the speaker, it will be too loud, but if they're angled too far away from the speaker, the guests actually may have difficulty hearing her.  With 2 speakers, you can put one on each side of the assembly and the balanced sound will be much easier for your guests to hear, AND the sound will be much more balanced.  If you have a way to play the CD she needs, you can use the red/white sound plugs to plug the player into the sound board, and the 2 speakers will help to balance out the vocals AND instrumentals.

July 16, Our Wedding Day, is also International Juggling Day!

Well we've been given two options throughout our search for this same stuff.
The first that we were told was that we could just rent a speakers system from our local TrueValue. Or rent a karaoke set, which usually includes speakers and a wirelss mic.
We were most likely going to have to have a generator for this, which we would have to put a few hundred yards away to keep the noise down.

We then talked to our DJ  (Who is a total sweetheart!), who told us he had power converter he could hook-up to his van. The only noise we'll be hearing is his van running. He said he could hook up his laptop to it and get a wireless mic with a few speakers and that was it. So either you can talk to your DJ about how much equipment he would really need to do that and how much he would charge (ours did it free) but then he also said you could talk to karaoke companies about renting that kind of equipment also.

    GOOD LUCK!!

We went on Craigslist and got a $40 PA system thing (by we, I definitely mean FI). We are having about 125 guests, and this comes w/two speakers and some mics.  No one will be singing, but music will be playing for the processional and recessional (it has ipod capabilities). We have a friend who is going to man it during the ceremony.  HTH.
